The Stats Behind Danny Rohl as Rangers Next Manager Favourite Emerges

Danny Rohl is being lined up by Rangers as their new manager to replace the sacked Russell Martin.

The German coach is believed to have held discussions with the Light Blues’ hierarchy as they seek to steady the ship following what was a dismal Martin stint early this term.

Rohl is understood to have impressed the board at Ibrox with his vision as well as his training plans and his fresh thinking.

And it has emerged that he is the new favourite to take on what is a massive job for the Gers as they look to try and close the gap on rivals Celtic and apparent title challengers Hearts who have put up an early fight.

Rohl is only 36-years-old and would constitute a serious gamble for Rangers after the ill-fated Martin spell which still lingers.

But what exactly is it that the former Bayern Munich assistant boss will bring to Glasgow?

The stats behind Rohl’s career as a gaffer look decent and comes with some context woven in that perhaps prevented his numbers being even more impressive.

Why Danny Rohl is Rangers’ next manager favourite

He has more often than not been an assistant head coach with Bayern, RB Leipzig and the German national team as well as Southampton.

Yet he was given his first crack at managing in his own right with Sheffield Wednesday back in 2023 and he remained with the Owls until earlier this year even amid financial problems.

He would eventually leave the club and has since became Gers’ priority after Steven Gerrard knocked the Rangers job back upon inspection into the squad and other issues.

So Rohl’s history has come into the spotlight as fans aim to learn more about the coach and what he has done throughout his career that qualifies him to be the manager of the Scottish Premiership giants.

From the 89 matches in charge of Wednesday, Rohl’s stats are not too shabby, all things considered.

He competed in the EFL Championship through the two seasons and kept the club up despite their off-field troubles.

And, in all competitions, he won 34 matches as their gaffer.

Danny Rohl Sheffield Wednesday stats

It was 36 defeats in that time with a points per game ratio of 1.36. They also drew 19 times.

He appears to know how to get his teams scoring goals with 122 in 89 but Rangers fans may be wary as to how many they conceded – 137 – as a club their size cannot allow too many conceded.

But what have his former players said about him? Wednesday captain Barry Bannan – a massive Celtic fan – reckons Rohl would be an ideal fit across the city.

“I think he could be a massive success at Rangers. He loves things like this. Rangers are right up his street because he loves a challenge,” Bannan told the Daily Record.

“I’ve never seen a fanbase take to a manager as much as ours did with Danny. And that’s obviously what Rangers need. I think it’s a good match.

“He plays the game on the touchline and that’s what Rangers fans want to see. He’ll believe he can still get Rangers challenging for the league this season. Danny will target winning the title.”
