Elliot Anderson has had an excellent run with Nottingham Forest across the past few seasons.
The attacking midfielder has become one of the club’s top performers since establishing himself and continues to outdo himself on a weekly basis.
Anderson joined the City Ground back in 2024 for a fee of around £35million with some questioning the price tag despite the player spending most of his time at St James’ on the sidelines.
However it can now be argued that he has more than made up that number with his outings even if his statistics leave a bit to be desired at two goals and seven assists in 51 appearances.
Anderson has also had two nations fighting over his allegiance since his early years.
The playmaker turned out for Scotland as a youth player with caps for their under 16s, 17s and 21s.
But after finally being called into the main set up under manager Steve Clarke, one training session put him off and he withdrew, instead hoping to wait it out to play for England instead.
Elliot Anderson to Newcastle gains transfer traction
That call would also eventually come and Anderson has now played twice for the Three Lions.
Forest are struggling, meanwhile, under new boss Ange Postecoglou and that has led to some speculation that their star players could consider leaving in January or at the end of the season if their issues persist.
And that has now ramped up involving Anderson where his former club, Newcastle United, are concerned.
Following his side’s 2-0 defeat to the Magpies last weekend, Anderson was spotted on camera at full-time sharing a hug and a laugh with manager Eddie Howe having briefly worked together before.
And that led to the rumour mill flying into action with many punters speculating that Anderson could be on his way back to Tyneside with Howe seemingly interested.

Why Newcastle sold Anderson to Nottingham Forest
One fan, who filmed the interaction, captioned his clip on social media: “He’s coming home at some point”.
Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier also noted Anderson’s return in his matchday programme as he welcomed his ex-teammate back as an opponent.
“Finally, it’s always good to see Elliot Anderson back at St James’ Park and even better to see him return as a full England international,” Trippier wrote.
“It doesn’t surprise me that, having moved elsewhere to showcase his abilities, he’s shown what an unbelievable player he is. He is a Geordie through and through and I have the utmost respect for him.”
Anderson was sold by Newcastle out of necessity with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules breathing down their neck at the time.
