Endrick has made a superb start to life at Lyon.

After Endrick joined Lyon on loan from Real Madrid at the start of the January transfer window, the 19-year-old has delivered five goals and an assist in his first five matches.

Lyon have won each of those five matches and now boast a streak of 11 victories since early December.

Endrick’s latest goal for the Ligue 1 club came in a 2-0 win over Laval in the French Cup on Wednesday night.

It was a stunning strike from 20 yards in the 80th minute.

Endrick plays down Karim Benzema comparisons

Endrick’s fabulous form since joining Lyon has led to some fans and pundits comparing him to Karim Benzema.

A young Benzema scored 66 goals in 148 games for Lyon, including 31 in the 2007/08 season, before leaving to join Real Madrid in 2009.

Benzema then scored 354 times in 648 matches for Real Madrid over 14 seasons in the Spanish capital.

The French forward now plays in Saudi Arabia. Benzema recently moved from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal in a move that angered Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reacting to the Benzema comparisons, Endrick said following his goal against Laval on Wednesday: “No, it’s very good for me because he is a great player, an incredible player who has been the best in the world.

“But Karim is light-years ahead of me. He’s a great player. I hope he enjoys it at Al Hilal. I’m very happy to be here, where Karim played. And I hope he can have a great end to his career — or as long as he can keep playing.”

Will Endrick return to Real Madrid at the end of the season?

Endrick is not expected to remain at Lyon beyond the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Real Madrid still see him as a future star in Spain. Their decision to loan him out to Lyon was largely motivated by the need to give him increased game time to aid his development.

Indeed, the loan agreement included a clause obligating Lyon to start him in a certain number of games.

Half of his salary is still being paid by Madrid, while the loan agreement does not include an option for Lyon to buy him outright.
