Mo Salah has said that he expects to be at Anfield on Saturday, although it is unclear whether he will be selected for what could be the final game of his Liverpool career.
Salah — a five-time winner of Liverpool’s Player of the Year award — threw his Anfield future into doubt after last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Leeds when he told journalists that he had “no relationship” with manager Arne Slot.
The 33-year-old also accused Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus” after he started three consecutive Premier League games on the bench amid the team’s poor run of form.
Salah was then left out of the squad completely for Tuesday’s trip to Inter Milan. Liverpool beat Inter 1-0 as Arne Slot debuted a new 4-1-2-1-2 formation — a system that cannot naturally accommodate Salah in his preferred position on the right flank.
Despite being under contract until June 2027, it now seems very possible that Salah could leave Liverpool in January. The most realistic destination is Al-Hilal, with Salah’s likely weekly wage in Saudi Arabia expected to dwarf his current earnings in the Premier League.
Will Mo Salah play against Brighton?
It seems likely that Salah will not feature in Saturday’s Premier League game against Brighton at Anfield.
But Salah intends to attend the fixture, and he has also urged his closest family members to come too.
Speaking earlier this week, Salah said that he had told his parents to “come to the Brighton game”.
He added: “I don’t know if I am going to play or not, but I am going to enjoy it. I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the Africa Cup. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.”
Has Mo Salah played his last game for Liverpool?
Salah is due to leave England after Saturday’s game to join up with his Egypt teammates ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The January transfer window will likely be open by the time his involvement at AFCON 2025 is over. Therefore, it is plausible that he may have played his last game for Liverpool.
To date, Salah has scored 327 goals in 671 appearances for the Reds.

Are Liverpool planning to give Mo Salah a send-off at the Brighton game?
From the club side, there are no official plans to publicly wave goodbye to Salah on Saturday — even if only to wish him well at AFCON 2025.
Liverpool’s reluctance to stage a ceremonial send-off for Salah is mainly because it has not yet been confirmed that he will not return after AFCON.
However, it is understood that club bosses are also cautious not to do anything that might weaken their position when it comes to negotiating a transfer fee for Salah. The fear is that if Liverpool are seen to publicly accept that Salah is leaving, then they may be forced to accept a lower offer.
Liverpool fans determined to give Mo Salah a fitting farewell
Although it is not yet certain whether Saturday’s game will witness Salah’s final appearance at Anfield, many Liverpool fans intend to take the opportunity to show their appreciation for the club legend just in case.
Multiple Reds fans took to social media this week to stress the importance of Salah receiving a proper send-off.
“I’ll be absolutely fuming if they don’t allow Salah the send-off he deserves,” wrote one Liverpool supporter on X.
Another post read: “If Brighton is Mo Salah’s last LFC game & he’s not in the squad, I’ll never forgive Slot, [sporting director Richard] Hughes & [chief executive Michael] Edwards.
“For all he’s done, he deserves a massive send-off. The Anfield crowd deserves the chance to show their gratitude. Even Trent [Alexander-Arnold] got a send-off.”
Among the replies to this message was one that read: “They should do the right thing.” Another said: “The right thing is to give him the send-off he deserves.”
Not all fans sounded sure Salah was leaving, but most agreed he deserved to be celebrated one last time before he goes — whenever that may be.
One fan concluded: “I still don’t think Salah is leaving, by the way. Do I think it’s a sad thing right now? Yes. Do I think it can be resolved? Yes.
“If it’s not and he leaves without a send-off, Slot, Hughes and Edwards all need to go. Because that’s not how you treat a king and a legend. Confident he stays though.”
