Manchester United are thought to be interested in signing Newcastle’s Tino Livramento as a long-term wing-back solution.
United’s rebuild under manager Ruben Amorim is continuing to take shape, with a clearer identity emerging.
The summer window saw a heavy focus on attacking signings, with Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko among the major arrivals.
But it’s the defence that is now a focal point for the club’s transfer business in 2026.
And according to reports, Tino Livramento has emerged as a leading target for the Red Devils.
Although any potential move is at a very early stage, United’s interest is concrete and the 23-year-old is firmly on the club’s radar.
Livramento became the latest member of Newcastle’s injury crisis after picking up a knee injury in last week’s League cup victory against Fulham.
Eddie Howe on Tino Livramento:
“We don’t think it’s a serious injury. The complication we have is that Tino has injured that knee before in a very similar area. That always makes the potential recovery time a little bit longer. I don’t think we’ll see him possibly before 2026.” pic.twitter.com/CU0cfKYvlQ

Manchester United See Tino Livramento As Dorgu Replacement
Patrick Dorgu was one of the first signings of the Amorim era.
A clear indication of the Portuguse’s desire to play with wing-backs, the Danish international arrived as a specialist, but has struggled to nail down a spot in the team.
Internally, there are doubts over Dorgu’s ability to fill the left-hand side of Amorim’s defence.
Club sources have reportedly admitted that the step up may have come too soon for the young wing-back, prompting United to explore alternative options.
Two names were highlighted as potential targets: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown and Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.
While Brown is a more natural left-sided option, Livramento’s inclusion is particularly intriguing given his profile and pedigree.

The 23-year-old England international is primarily a right-back, but he has shown he is more than capable of operating on the left.
United believe Livramento’s pace, technical ability and attacking threat would suit them well.
And a wing-back role would allow him to push further upfield than he has been able to while at Newcastle.
How Would Livramento Fit In At Manchester United?
Livramento’s potential appeal to Amorim lies not just in his quality, but in his versatility.
Amorim has often favoured “wrong-footed” wing-backs who can cut inside and contribute differently in possession.
Diogo Dalot and Amad Diallo have both been used in this way, and Livramento fits that mould well.
At Newcastle, Livramento has largely operated as a traditional full-back under Eddie Howe, with strong defensive responsibilities.

At United, he would likely be encouraged to play higher up the pitch, providing width, carrying the ball forward, and supporting the press.
His athleticism and recovery pace would also be valuable in a system that can leave space behind the wing-backs.
And crucially, Livramento’s ability to play on either flank would give Amorim tactical flexibility.
Although initially viewed as an option to add competition, Livramento would likely be a long-term replacement for Dorgu.
How likely Is A Deal?
But despite United’s interest, any deal for Livramento would be far from straightforward.
Newcastle rate the defender extremely highly, and Eddie Howe would be reluctant to lose one of his most consistent performers.
Interest from elsewhere further complicates matters, with Chelsea and, in particular, Manchester City closely monitoring the situation.
The main targets for Manchester City at fullback positions remain Tino Livramento and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

City are reportedly willing to bid as high as £70m if Newcastle indicate a willingness to sell, and have even considered offering goalkeeper James Trafford as part of a deal.
From Livramento’s perspective, he is understood to be happy at Newcastle and relaxed about his future.
However, interest from elite clubs could be used as leverage in contract talks, with Newcastle keen to avoid another prolonged saga similar to the Alexander Isak situation that dragged out over the summer.
As a result, it feels unlikely that Livramento will leave St. James’ Park any time soon.
But United’s interest is strong, and a future bid could well come in at a later date.
Newcastle will be reluctant to sell, but may be forced into accepting a hefty bid if contract talks stall.
