Why PSG outcast Lucas Beraldo could be heading for Fenerbahce this month

With PSG eyeing up a number of centre-backs in January, could Lucas Beraldo be heading for Fenerbahce?

Is Lucas Beraldo a target for Fenerbahce?

Beraldo has lifted a plethora of silverware with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), including the 2024/25 Champions League trophy, two Ligue 1 titles and a couple of Coupe de France honours. That is to name just a few pieces of personal achievement that he has celebrated at his current employer.

However, competing for a place in the heart of PSG’s defence is dog-eat-dog to say the very least. Club captain Marquinhos, £54.9million summer signing Illia Zabarnyi, and Willian Pacho are all seemingly ahead of Beraldo in manager Luis Enrique’s plans.

This was perfectly demonstrated, with Beraldo left out in the cold as an unused substitute, as PSG obtained local bragging rights by beating Paris FC 2-1 on Sunday. This still hasn’t stopped the Brazilian international from making 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

He hasn’t played a single minute in the 2025/26 Champions League phase. It’s anyone’s guess if the commanding centre-back will eclipse the 33 competitive appearances he made last season.

Someone who can cause strikers and/or attacking midfielders a problem when battling for the ball in the air, Beraldo more than likely will only make a potential move if PSG can find a potential replacement.

PSG eye up Upamecano, while Turkish clubs look at Beraldo

If reports are to be believed, PSG are eyeing up a Bundesliga duo in the January transfer window, including Bayern Munich’s out-of-contract defender Dayot Upamecano, as potentially Beraldo’s replacement.

Despite being linked with Italian footballing heavyweights Juventus, it seems the Brazilian could be off to Turkey instead. Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe have been rumoured to be sniffing around the CB as recently as Sunday.

Süper Lig title-challengers Fenerbahce looking to invest

With both clubs, especially second-placed Fenerbahce, attempting to dethrone defending Süper Lig champions Galatasaray this season, manager Domenico Tedesco could strengthen his defensive options in January. Incidentally, Beraldo was actually linked with Galatasaray in August, but a move never materialised.

Fenerbahçe have an overabundance of centre-half talent, including Milan Škriniar, Diego Carlos, Jayden Oosterwolde and Rodrigo Becão, but it’s not bad to have extra defensive reinforcements, considering potential injuries and suspensions.

With his contract not due to expire until June 2028, a bid of around Beraldo’s £17.4million reported market value could be enough to tempt the upper echelons at the Parc des Princes.

He can also operate at left-back and is still maturing on the pitch at the age of 22, which makes his signature all the more attractive to any potential suitors.

However, it doesn’t appear that former club São Paulo are seeking to bring Beraldo back to Brazil after joining the reigning and defending domestic French champions in January 2024.
