Wayne Rooney Tells Manchester United How Many Transfers He Wants To See; Who Signings Could Be

Wayne Rooney has urged Manchester United to bring in as many as three more new signings this window.

The Red Devils icon played during his career with plenty of other legends of the game so knows what it takes to put together a winning Premier League squad for a season.

United have started their campaign poorly with just one point from six available having lost on the opening day to Arsenal and then nicked a point away at Fulham last Sunday.

Rooney took in the afternoon of football at Craven Cottage and spoke during his punditry duties on BBC’s podcast about how United must improve their team if they are to stand any real chance at improving enough to compete this term.

Wayne Rooney wants three more Manchester United signings

Manager Ruben Amorim has come under fire for his selections and results in recent times with a poor record, it must be said, as boss.

He has brought in a number of signings this window so far including Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbuemo and Mathues Cunha but Rooney reckons as many as three further recruits could be necessary so strengthen the club where they need to be.

“I think the recruitment has been good in the summer, but I still want to see two or three more players brought in, I’d like to see that,” Wazza said.

“But yeah, it’s difficult to say that this is going to be our manager for the next four or five years on what we’ve seen.”

Asked if Amorim is still the man to take United forward this year, Rooney stopped short of providing a definitive answer.

And the former Birmingham City head coach even feels Amorim would acknowledge as much himself following their start to the season.

Other players linked with Manchester United transfer

“It’s difficult. Obviously, to sit here and say, ‘Yeah 100 per cent’, I don’t think anyone could do that and I don’t think Ruben Amorim would say that himself with what we’ve seen since he’s been at the club,” Rooney added.

United have been linked – as you would expect – with a number of players this summer but will not be splashing out on panic buys. Dayot Upamecano was mentioned as a possible recruit.

Royal Antwerp star Senne Lammens is closing in on a Premier League switch to Old Trafford after he was left out of their matchday squad last weekend in their 2-1 win over KV Mechelen.

Celtic-bound Michel Ange Balikwisha was also missing from that match as he said his goodbyes to his teammates in Belgium before making the move to Glasgow in a deal worth believed to be in the region of around £4.5million.

United also like Carlos Baleba of Brighton as well as Randal Kolo Muani of Paris Saint-Germain.

Rio Ferdinand urged United to sign Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton this summer, too.
