Michael Laudrup Admits Barcelona Signing Defied Expectations

Michael Laudrup Has Been Surprised By Barcelona Newcomer Roony Bardghji

Barcelona legend Michael Laudrup has admitted that Roony Bardghji’s signing caught him off guard, but he is pleased to see his growing influence.

In July, Barcelona signed Bardghji from FC Copenhagen for an initial fee of around €2 million. He signed a four-year contract, until 30 June 2029.

Many believed Bardghji’s arrival would be followed by a swift departure, with Barca flipping him for profit. However, Hansi Flick has not only kept him around but has also given him enough opportunities to make an impact.

Barcelona Legend Surprised By Roony Bardghji Signing

Speaking with Diario SPORT, Michael Laudrup, who played over 200 games for Barcelona, talked discussed Roony Bardghji’s transfer.

He hailed Bardghji for proving his worth in a squad teeming with players of “enormous talent”.

This is the case of a young player who arrives and trains with players of enormous talent, supposedly much more talented than him,” said Laudrup.

Suddenly, one day, he wins half a game, then a whole game, and in the end even more. And there he stays.”

Bardghji has played nine LaLiga matches this season, scoring one goal and providing an assist. The 20-year-old has also featured in three Champions League matches and claimed an assist.

The Danish manager discussed Bardghji’s recent performances. He said that while he has been surprised, his journey has been satisfying to witness.

Laudrup added:

The truth is that I’m surprised, but at the same time, I’m happy for him. I saw the game against Betis, where Bardghji scored. It was a good game.

With Bardghji in the team, the Blaugrana have become even more formidable in attack. Barcelona lead LaLiga in goals in 2025, and they are the favourites to retain their crown next year.

Bardghji Was One of the Standouts in Barca’s Thrilling Win Over Betis

Earlier this month, Barcelona and Real Betis produced an all-timer at the Estadio La Cartuja. The teams traded blows all night, scoring eight goals between them.

The Blaugrana ultimately came out on top, sealing a 5-3 victory. Ferran Torres took the match ball home after scoring a hat-trick, while Roony Bardghji and Lamine Yamal chipped in with one goal each.

It was Bardghji’s finest performance since his move to Catalonia.

In the 13th minute, the youngster found Ferran Torres with a gem of a cross inside the area. The Spaniard applied a tidy finish to score through the Alavaro Valles’ legs.

Then, just past the half-hour mark, Bardghji added a goal to his earlier assist. He ran onto Pedri’s through ball and unleashed a powerful strike to beat the goalkeeper at his near post.

Barcelona return to action with a Copa del Rey Round-of-32 clash with Guadalajara on Tuesday. The Swedish forward is in contention to start.
