Mo Salah now holds the African record as the outright leading goalscorer in World Cup qualifiers.

Salah scored twice on Wednesday to fire Egypt to a 3-0 win over Djibouti, which saw the Pharaohs become the third African nation to book their spot at next year’s 48-team tournament — joining Morocco and Tunisia on the guest list.

Liverpool legend Salah has now scored 20 goals in World Cup qualifiers during his Egypt career — two more than Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba managed for Cameroon and Ivory Coast respectively during their international careers.

Salah has now scored 63 goals in 108 senior appearances for Egypt. He needs another seven goals to overtake Hossam Hassan as his country’s all-time leading scorer.

However, Salah already holds plenty of other records — some of which we have listed below.

What records could Mo Salah break in future?

Salah is also closing in on several major milestones. He is just seven goals away from becoming Egypt’s all-time leading scorer, although he remains 76 games behind Ahmed Hassan on the list of his nation’s most capped players.

Meanwhile, Salah (188 goals) continues to climb the Premier League’s all-time list of leading scorers, with only Alan Shearer (260), Harry Kane (213) and Wayne Rooney (208) currently ahead of him.

He also has the chance to become the first player to win five Premier League Golden Boots, and he is within touching distance of surpassing Steven Gerrard’s record for the most penalties scored for Liverpool.

Despite some recent calls for Salah to be benched by Liverpool boss Arne Slot, his remarkable fitness and consistency mean further landmark achievements in both domestic and international football are highly likely in the coming years.
