Noel Gallagher has made his feelings clear on both Arsenal and Liverpool and who he’d rather see win the Premier League this season.
The Manchester City fan admitted he would rather see Liverpool lift the title than Mikel Arteta’s side — even though both clubs have been City’s fiercest rivals in recent seasons.
Noel Gallagher on Arsenal and Liverpool
Speaking to talkSPORT Drive, the lifelong Manchester City fan said, “Who do I want to win out of the two? Liverpool — I hate Arsenal. And, for the record, I hate Liverpool too.”
The Oasis icon went on to explain that he has plenty of friends who support both clubs, which has only added fuel to his dislike.
“To be quite honest, I’ve got a few Arsenal mates and a few Scousers in my group as well. They tend to be bad winners as well as bad losers. If they can both lose it, that’d be great.”
Still, when pushed for a choice, Gallagher admitted Liverpool are “the better team” and therefore his reluctant pick.
Manchester City face Arsenal in crucial Premier League clash
Gallagher’s comments come just days before Manchester City face Arsenal at the Etihad, a fixture that has become one of the Premier League’s most important showdowns in recent seasons.
City are looking to build momentum after their midweek Champions League win over Napoli, while Arsenal head into the clash with three wins from four league games.
Liverpool, meanwhile, sit three points clear at the top with a perfect start, piling the pressure on both rivals to keep pace.
For Gallagher, however, City’s inconsistent league form has left him fearing Pep Guardiola’s side won’t be in the mix this time.
“Arsenal have got a stable, very experienced team now – [City’s team] doesn’t look too experienced at the moment because it’s all young players. Liverpool have got an experienced team because they’ve won it already.
“So I’d put us probably third or fourth. Even the game on Sunday, I think we’re going there in hope of beating Arsenal – no one’s going there expecting to win.
“I expect a good game, hopefully we can get something, but you look at Arsenal and Liverpool – they just look stronger than us.”
Are Liverpool’s late winning goals a sign of title winners?
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have won every game so far this season, though arguably unconvincingly.
In all competitions, they have scored decisive goals in the final 10 minutes, including Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time header to beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the Champions League.
Gallagher sees that resilience as the hallmark of potential champions: “Liverpool have got the look of champions because they keep digging it out in the last minute. But then City were doing that last season for the first six games, and then it all fell apart.”
Football betting sites appear to align with Gallagher’s thoughts having priced Liverpool as slight favourites ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
