Paul Scholes has laid into Marcus Rashford after what he saw from the attacker last season at Manchester United.
Rashford returned to England last week with loan club Barcelona and took his game up a few gears with a blistering brace against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
It was a stunning header he scored to break the deadlock before he rifled in a strike which nestled in the top corner to remind fans of what he is capable of when he turns it on.
Rashford truly appeared to arrive as a Barca player with a two-goal display that night on Tyneside but for Scholes, all it did was frustrate the 50-year-old for what he felt the England international could have done for Manchester United.
The attacker was allowed to leave on loan by Ruben Amorim last season when he joined Aston Villa before he was then permitted to depart again this year for the Catalan giants.
But while Red Devils icon Scholes was left thinking of what might have been had Rashford screwed his head on properly, the former midfielder pulled no punches in his assessment of what went wrong at Old Trafford.
Scholes destroyed Rashford over ‘disgraceful demeanour’ at Manchester United
In an astonishing rant, Scholes accused Rashford of “quitting on United” as he branded his actions a “disgrace” in one of the last times he watched the player at United.
“There’s no doubt the talent that kid has got, it’s ridiculous, he’s shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant,” he said speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
“I really struggled to feel happy for him, to feel pleased for him. Mainly because his attitude, his attitude at United. The time he was leaving, I thought it was just disgrace at United, not trying, basically.
“Look, if you fell out with a manager, then OK, but remember, you’ve got team-mates you’re playing with.
“You’ve got a massive 80,000 there, whatever it is, every single week that you have to put a bit of effort in.
“The amount of times I saw him at United walking because he wants to leave, I thought his whole demeanour was a disgrace.
“I think he actually quit on Manchester United. And once you quit once, you’ll quit again.”
Rashford’s professionalism questioned previously
Rashford’s effort and professionalism have been questioned before now previously, too, and that reared its head again over the weekend.
According to reports in Spain Rashford was late for training and subsequently left on the bench for Barcelona by manager Hansi Flick for their clash with Getafe.
He would come off the sidelines to provide an assist in that game but it is not the first time the forward has been punished by his club.
Back under former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, he was punished for missing training following a boozy night out he had in Belfast in 2024.
There was also another issue two years prior when he was late before a game against Wolves and was punished then, too.
