Raheem Sterling posted an Instagram story of an isolated training session at Chelsea late on Monday night.
The former Manchester City and Liverpool forward remains on the fringes of Enzo Maresca’s squad after the Italian made it clear that Sterling has no role in his plans this season.
Despite links to Bayern Munich, Napoli and Saudi Arabia, Sterling stayed put on deadline day, leaving him stranded in Chelsea’s so-called “bomb squad”.
Raheem Sterling Instagram Story of Chelsea Training Session
At 8:21pm on Monday evening, Sterling uploaded an Instagram story showing an empty Cobham training pitch alongside the word “training”, a handshake emoji and a frozen face.
Another photo showed his boots and Chelsea gear laid out, showing the isolated reality of his situation.
The 30-year-old has been training separately from the first team since the start of pre-season.
His £325,000-a-week wages and preference to remain in England (and ideally London) have complicated Chelsea’s efforts to find him a new club.
Will Sterling Return to Chelsea Squad?
Maresca has been firm on his stance regarding Sterling and other outcasts, including Axel Disasi and David Datro Fofana.
Asked if there was any way back, the Chelsea manager was blunt: “Since we started the season, I didn’t see one of them. They train at a different time, on a different pitch. I haven’t seen them since we started the season… With us? No.”
This has left Sterling facing months of training alone unless Chelsea can agree an exit in January.
Raheem Sterling Transfer Rumours
Bayern Munich are understood to have enquired about Sterling late in the window, during talks over Nicolas Jackson.
Napoli also showed interest, while clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia sounded him out. But Sterling has reportedly rejected Saudi approaches, preferring to remain closer to home.
With Chelsea desperate to reduce their wage bill, Sterling’s contract remains one of the most pressing issues for the club’s hierarchy ahead of the January transfer window.
Ultimately, one of the Premier League’s highest earners is training alone in the cold, with no pathway back into the Chelsea squad.
Unless an exit is negotiated in the winter window, the forward may spend the remainder of the season on the sidelines — a stark fall for a player once considered among England’s most reliable attacking options.
