Ruben Amorim Reveals Where He Sees Benjamin Sesko Fitting Manchester United Plan

Benjamin Sesko transfer to Manchester United

Ruben Amorim has wasted little time in explaining just where Benjamin Sesko fits in his plans at Manchester United.

The Slovenian striker finally put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Old Trafford in a move worth around €85million.

It was a drawn out transfer for the Red Devils amid interest from Newcastle United who fought to bring the hitman to St James’s Park before Manchester United ultimately won the race to sign Sesko.

But manager Amorim has always wanted the player to join his squad and was chuffed to get it over the line.

What Ruben Amorim said about new Manchester United star Benjamin Sesko

Now the Portuguese boss has revealed just where he feels the frontman can benefit his squad for the coming season as he pinpointed the skills Sesko has in his arsenal.

“He has the characteristics that we needed,” Amorim told MUTV. “He is really young, he is good in the air, he is good at running the channels and he is good on the ball, so I think he has great potential. I think he can improve a lot.

“For sure, he is going to feel at home in our club. He is the right character in this group, so we are really, really happy to have him.”

Sesko’s move came after he made it clear he only wanted Manchester United despite interest from elsewhere.

Why Sesko chose Manchester United over Newcastle

Magpies manager Eddie Howe had been chasing a new forward and had earmarked Sesko as the ideal profile he thought would do a job for his side.

But despite Newcastle offering more cash up front – €82.5m plus €2.5m in bonuses – as well as the opportunity to play Champions League football, Sesko’s desire to play in red was obvious.

The high-profile signing is the third Man United have secured this summer transfer window having already added Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo to their roster as well as Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

It takes the club’s spending under the INEOS-led structure to more than £200m so far and that figure could be dwarfed should Amorim look to do more business.

Sesko has been on United’s radar for some time after he was scouted while he was at RB Salzburg in 2019. He burst onto the scene for the Austrian outfit’s first-team in a standout campaign in 2022/23 where he hit 22 goals in 50 appearances.

How Benjamin Sesko describes his playing style

The forward describes himself as someone who is ready to attack at all times and believes he will suit the way his new team are required to play by their manager.

Speaking to the club’s official channels, he added: “I’m kind of the guy that is ready to attack, to be in front, if there is a space to run in.

“Of course, if there are crosses, it’s always going to be nice, I’m always going to be there and I think that’s also what is important.”
