Strasbourg on course to maintain unbeaten Conference League record ahead of Breidablik meeting

Strasbourg are on the brink of being named as only the second Ligue 1 side not to lose a match in the group stage/league phase of the Conference League.

Strasbourg aiming for unbeaten Conference League group phase

Strasbourg play Iceland’s Breidablik in the final round of matches in the 2025/26 Conference League phase on Thursday, positioned at the top of the standings.

Liam Rosenior’s side are the only current side in the competition guaranteed of at least a place in the play-off round of this season.

Strasbourg have already qualified for at the very least the play-off round of this season’s tournament after remaining unbeaten through their five matches (W4, D1); they are currently the only side in the competition to have achieved that feat.

To put Strasbourg’s achievement on paper into a more impressive perspective, they are only one of three sides, alongside Raków Częstochowa and AEK Larnaca, yet to lose a game throughout the 2025/26 league phase.

Stacking in the striking department, but struggling at home

A hurdle preventing Strasbourg from potentially eclipsing Lille in the latter stages of this season’s competition could be their form in front of their supporters. Le Racing have failed to get onto the podium in their last two matches (D1, L1), which has seen them slip down the Ligue 1 standings.

Despite possessing the second leading marksman in France this season in Joaquín Panichelli, who has nine goals this season, and club captain Emmanuel Emegha playing up top, Strasbourg have struggled at the Stade de la Meinau as of yet.

Emegha’s impending departure to Chelsea will certainly hurt Strasbourg, but that isn’t due to be transferred over until the conclusion of the current campaign. However, Emegha is currently eligible to play in the Conference League phase. So unless the club decide to make him an active participant for the latter stages, it’s going to be up to Panichelli to keep scoring the goals.

Some might easily see that as a downside to Chelsea-BlueCo-ownership-model, who own both the Blues and Strasbourg, as the French side will lose Emegha at the end of the season. That’s not to say other Strasbourg players haven’t made an impression across the pitch so far in 202526, with Valentín Barco contributing five attacking returns (G1, A4) and Guela Doué adding a further four, G1, A3.

Three points on Thursday to secure impressive top spot

Three points at the Stade de la Meinau would secure top spot for Strasbourg, just like Lille in 2023/24. However, Rosenior’s men will need to address a completely new opponent, after never facing an Icelandic side before.

Breaking new ground would surely inspire confidence in Strasbourg, potentially matching Lille’s feat of reaching the quarter-finals a couple of years ago before being agonizingly eliminated on penalties by Aston Villa.
