Barcelona and Real Madrid headline another edition of the Supercopa de Espana in Saudi Arabia, with record prize money on offer for the 2026 tournament.
The Blaugrana, who claimed the top prize by beating Los Blancos last year, get the tournament underway on Wednesday. They face Athletic Bilbao in the first semi-final at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Barcelona have suffered a fresh injury blow ahead of the game, but they are still the favourites to get the win.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, will face Atletico Madrid at the same venue on Thursday night. It is unclear whether Kylian Mbappe will play or not in the semi-final, adding to Xabi Alonso’s worries ahead of a potentially decisive tournament.
Supercopa de Espana 2026 Payout Greater than Last Year
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) initially faced backlash for conducting the Supercopa de Espana outside of Spain. But the situation has improved in the last couple of seasons.
As things stand, Saudi Arabia will continue to keep hosting the mini tournament at least until 2030.
Thanks to the tournament’s success, RFEF is injecting more cash, making it even more lucrative for Spanish teams.
According to Diario AS, the 2026 Supercopa de Espana will have a prize money of €21.3 million ($24.9 million) – a €2.3 million ($2.7 million) increase over last year.

As always, more successful teams will get the bigger shares of the pie. The distribution of funds would be based on each club’s titles and history in international competitions. However, performance-linked bonuses are fixed for all teams.
Spanish Super Cup fetches €51 million ($59.6 million) for the RFEF. They get €40 million from Saudi Arabia for hosting rights and earn the remaining through sponsorships.
The majority of said funds are reinvested into the development of Spanish football. This year, €26 million ($30.4 million) will go to Spain’s lower-ranked leagues.
How Much Money Could Barcelona and Real Madrid Make?
The biggest portion of the bonus is distributed right at the beginning. According to AS, €16.3 million ($19 million) will be divided among the four participants for qualifying for the tournament this year.
Last season, the qualification bonus was set at €14.95 million ($17.5 million). Real Madrid earned the most at €6.15 million ($7.2 million), while Barcelona, Athletic Club, and Mallorca secured €6 million ($7 million), €2 million ($2.3 million), and €850,000 ($994,000), respectively.
Although unconfirmed, the Clasico rivals are expected to earn the most once again this year.
The remaining €5 million ($5.8 million) will be distributed based on sporting performance. This year, the winner will receive €2 million and the runners-up will pocket €1.4 million.

Teams eliminated in the semi-finals get €800,000 each.
Last year, Real Madrid and Barcelona each got €1 million for winning the semi-finals. The Catalans earned an additional €2 million for beating the Whites (5-2) in the final.
Since Atletico Madrid are in the mix this season, Madrid and Barca could see their qualification bonuses reduced.
However, since they will draw the largest crowd, they are likely to pocket a minimum of €5 million. Even if they are eliminated, they will add another €800,000 to their tally.
If they cross the first hurdle, they will earn a minimum of €1.4 million (runners-up). The winner will take home €2 million.
Assuming a qualification bonus of €5 million for both, they could earn a minimum of €5.8 million from the Supercopa de Espana. The maximum earnings could cross €8 million.
