Tom Cleverley Storms Off Argyle TV Set After Plymouth Defeat Sparks Viral Clip

Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley

Plymouth Argyle’s miserable start to the League One season took a bizarre turn on Tuesday night when a technical mishap on the club’s in-house channel Argyle TV saw manager Tom Cleverley walk off set mid-broadcast.

Cleverley’s side were beaten 1-0 at Home Park by Leyton Orient, leaving the recently relegated Pilgrims without a point from their first four league matches.

But it was the scenes that followed the full-time whistle which truly summed up the mood around the club.

After facing boos from the home crowd, the former Manchester United midfielder headed to the Argyle TV studio for his post-match duties.

However, with cameras rolling and staff appearing to struggle with the setup, Cleverley grew visibly frustrated as the broadcast stalled.

As the delay dragged on and a presenter appeared to answer a phone call live on air, Cleverley removed his microphone and walked off set. Seconds later, the live feed cut to black.

The clip, shared on social media by @joshhaynesPAFC, has since gone viral – racking up close to one million views and sparking a wave of fan backlash online.

Plymouth Fan Reaction to Bizarre Cleverley Clip

Plymouth supporters have taken to social media to vent their frustration, not only at the on-pitch performances but also at the perceived lack of professionalism behind the scenes.

“We are the laughing stock of English football. Absolutely embarrassing from top to bottom,” wrote one user.

“Feel for Clevs. Looks like he’s walked into a spin-off series of The Office that takes place in a football club,” said another.

Plymouth’s summer exodus, combined with a string of defeats to Barnsley, Bolton, Lincoln and now Leyton Orient, has left the club reeling.

Fan favourite Ryan Hardie was among several key departures as he moved to Wrexham, and replacements have been slow to arrive.

Cleverley Remains Defiant Despite Difficult Start

Despite the setback, Cleverley struck a determined tone when he eventually conducted his post-match duties.

He insisted his players were “focused, organised and trying their best” but admitted that Plymouth had “just fallen short”.

He acknowledged the need to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline and praised individual performances, including debutant Alex Mitchell and youngster Zaid Benarous.

“I had no doubt coming into this how big the job is. It’s a long, long process to get this team to where we want,” he said. “We are a club that needs a result, that’s for sure, and hopefully that comes Saturday.”

With zero points from four games, Plymouth sit in the relegation zone alongside Peterborough.

Their next test comes at home against Blackpool, and while it is still early in the season, there is growing pressure on both the board and their manager to turn things around quickly.
