Two young strikers to watch out for in the Premier League this season

In any game of football, the scoreline matters more than anything else. While the defensive stability and ball possession plays a role in dominating the proceedings on the field, it does not really matter, if your team ultimately can’t find the net. This is where the central forwards generally come in. They are tasked with the job of scoring important goals at key moments in order to take their respective sides over the line. The best forwards are not those, who are only able to score for themselves but also contribute towards their teammates’ success by setting up chances. With the new Premier League season nearly underway, we look at two young strikers, who could make the difference for their respective teams. Gabriel Jesus – Manchester City The Brazil international played second fiddle to Sergio Aguero for the striker’s role for most of the previous season and he was restricted to just eight league starts. However, the 22-year-old could be inching closer to a starting role this season after spearheading Brazil’s title success at the Copa America, where he contributed two goals and two assists from six appearances. Despite regularly coming off the bench last term, he managed seven goals and three assists in the league, and given more playing time, he is bound to increase his contribution tally. That may not necessarily happen at the beginning of the new Premier League campaign, but he has the chance to prove his importance to Pep Guardiola by making the most of every opportunity at hand. Tammy Abraham – Chelsea Unlike Jesus, Abraham has barely found success in the Premier League and he managed just five goals for Swansea City during a loan stint during the 2017/18 campaign. He has since experienced a season back in the Championship where he contributed 26 goals for Aston Villa en route to their top-flight promotion through the playoffs. As such, there are still question marks regarding his credentials in the Premier League but he should be offered with sufficient opportunities to impress under new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. With the transfer ban in place, the Blues manager has decided to focus on the progression of younger players and Abraham should be handed with a regular run upfront to showcase his quality.
