Wesley Fofana has dropped a major clue that he wants to leave Chelsea this summer.
The former Leicester City defender has suffered with numerous injury issues since he arrived at Stamford Bridge back in 2022.
Fofana was an unused substitute for the Blues in their Premier League opening match day clash in front of their home supporters which ended in a goalless draw.
It was head coach Enzo Maresca’s decision to leave Fofana on the sidelines with Josh Acheampong and Trevoh Chalobah playing from the start.
And that may be what triggered Fofana’s social media activity as it was spotted by eagle-eyed fans this morning that the French international, 24, had wiped Chelsea from his Instagram page.
Wesley Fofana has wiped Chelsea from his social media feeds
Fofana’s page no longer shows any Blues memories or images while he has also removed the club’s handle and name from his biography.
The seemingly wantaway centre-half did the exact same thing back in 2022 when he wanted a move away from the Foxes, so he certainly has previous.
Fofana still has pictures on his page of his time on the international stage.
It comes after Maresca told how he wanted defenders to compete following an ACL injury to Levi Colwill before the beginning of the new season.
The boss said before the league kicked off: “The club know exactly what I think.
“I think we need a central defender. We are looking for an internal solution but as I said, the club know exactly what I think.”
The Italian coach was also – at the time of Colwill’s injury – was asked if Fofana could potentially play the role he expects of his teammate where most of the build-up is played through the Englishman. And Maresca was doubtful.
What Enzo Maresca said about Fofana
He said: “Wes played 45 minutes in that position.
“It was the first half against Bournemouth away. Probably one of the worst halves since we started.”
Chelsea won the game that day, ironically, but their victory came after moving Fofana to the right-back slot Tosin Adarabioyo replaced Axel Disasi at the time.
Current defensive options already in the door for Maresca to choose from include Renato Veiga, Chalobah, Fofana, Disasi, Benoît Badiashile, Adarabioyo and Aarón Anselmino.
The London club have also been linked with Piero Hincape of Bayer Leverkusen, Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta centre-half Giorgio Scalvini. Alessandro Bastoni is also seemingly an option.
It is yet to be seen whether or not Fofana remains at Chelsea for much longer given his not-so-subtle exit clue.
So that could mean Maresca has more than one centre-half to bring in if the board sanction it.
