West Ham ‘Approach’ Ex-Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard With Graham Potter Future In Doubt

West Ham United are reportedly considering the future of manager Graham Potter following a miserable start to the new season.

The Irons have begun the campaign poorly having lost 3-0 to newly promoted side Sunderland on the opening matchday. Goals from Eliezer Mayenda, Daniel Ballard and Wilson Isidor won the game that day and sunk the Hammers.

They were then destroyed 5-1 by Arsenal in front of their own fans before Jarrod Bowen confronted angry supporters as they threw away a lead to lose to Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

A decent 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend calmed some of the noise but Potter’s role remains on a shoogly peg with punters questioning his mettle.

Reports have now emerged suggesting West Ham have already sounded out Potter’s possible replacement in the dugout should the club board decide to wield the axe.

And there is a former player in the conversation having been identified by the hierarchy to possibly become their new gaffer.

Frank Lampard ‘sounded out’ by West Ham United

According to one outlet, former Chelsea and Everton head coach Frank Lampard has been considered at London Stadium should Potter be binned this season.

The publication claims intermediaries have “put the feelers out” regarding Lampard who played at Upton Park for the club back between 1995-2001 before he moved to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard’s reputation as a boss in his own right began strong with a good year in charge of Derby County where his Rams only just missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

He took a massive leap from the Championship side to become manager of Chelsea but he won just 44 of the 84 matches he was put in charge of before he was sacked.

A stint at Everton was also handed to Lampard but, again, he was axed in favour of Sean Dyche despite guiding the Toffees to Premier League safety.

Why Lampard fits the bill to replace Graham Potter

It is believed Lampard has the ambition to return to the top flight of English football as a boss and that could prove bad news for Coventry City who are flourishing under the 47-year-old.

The Light Blues currently sit fifth in the second tier with eight points from their opening four games and they have started the campaign unbeaten.

A massive 7-1 victory came against Queen’s Park Rangers which had bigger clubs sitting up to take notice.

And West Ham may yet move for their academy graduate who sees himself working at the highest level again.

Jose Mourinho, out of work since leaving Fenerbahce, has also been listed as a possible candidate should Potter be sacked.
