West Ham have enquired about AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini as they look to strengthen their squad.
Graham Potter is said to be a fan of the playmaker and that area of the pitch is one that the manager hopes to be able to improve before the end of the summer window.
The Hammers have already added to their squad in the market with Jean-Clair Todibo joining in a £34.5million deal from Nice and El Hadji Malick Diouf arriving from Slavia Prague for a cool £19m.
Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was also snapped up from Leicester City but now it is in the engine room where Potter is looking to add.
West Ham enquire about Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Irons have asked the question to the Serie A giants regarding their talent. That could be a deal which runs through until closer to the September deadline should Roma wish to dig in their heels.
Pellegrini has turned out for Roma and Sassuolo throughout his career and at 29-years-old would provide added experience to the West Ham squad.
He is also an Italy international with 36 caps to his name.
Pellegrini came through the youth ranks at the Olimpico before leaving in 2015. He would eventually return to the club where it all started and he has been a consistent performer in the capital.
He has also proven himself to be a versatile performer and has produced strong showings as a number eight, deep lying midfielder and as a number 10 in a more advanced position.
Where Pellegrini would fit in at West Ham
Potter could certainly use the talent to combine with his midfield where the Hammers already boast the likes of Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, James Ward Prowse and Lucas Paqueta.
One player who may find himself out of the picture at the London Stadium this coming campaign is Scotland hopeful Andy Irving.
We told you how Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic had bid for West Ham’s Irving with an alleged £2.2million offer.
It is believed the Premier League outfit are holding out for around £3.5m before they sanction any deal but the Hoops have not yet improved on their efforts.
Andy Irving could leave West Ham for Celtic
Celts have spent the summer aiming to land two wingers and a striker and are overloaded in the centre of midfield.
However Irving’s homegrown status – having started at Hearts in Gorgie – could benefit the Scottish Premiership holders given their Champions League exploits.
It remains to be seen whether or not Irving will leave the club this summer but it’s unlikely Pellegrini’s potential signing would have much of a bearing.
