Wrexham Agree Record £10million Transfer Fee For Ipswich Town Striker

Wrexham have reportedly agreed a record-breaking £10million fee for their newest striker.

The Welsh side have spent good money this summer as they look to make waves in the EFL Championship this season having been promoted from League One.

The Hollywood-backed Dragons are set to spend even more and are, according to Sky Sports, closing in on Ipswich Town frontman Nathan Broadhead to bolster their frontline.

Wrexham began their season last weekend away at Southampton and took the lead through Josh Windass’ penalty before a late capitulation ended in a 2-1 defeat at St Mary’s.

Kieffer Moore – their signing from Sheffield United – led the line and won the spot-kick and their recruit from Plymouth Argyle, Ryan Hardie, came off the bench.

But the expected £10m to be splashed on Broadhead would surely secure the Welshman’s future as the starting striker.

Phil Parkinson would have had an ideal transfer shortlist alongside his recruitment staff to present to owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac but even the manager might not have expected a £10m player.

Though the American/Canadian ownership do have grand plans to make the Premier League and are seemingly willing to fork out the dosh to make that dream into a reality.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph took to social media to confirm the news. He wrote: “Wrexham have agreed a record £10m deal to sign Ipswich Town winger Nathan Broadhead.

Phil Parkinson has added eight Wrexham transfers this summer

“It’s understood the Wales international is on his way to Wrexham today to undergo a medical and finalise the paperwork on his move.”

Wrexham have already brought in as many as eight new signings with the likes of Conor Coady, Lewis O’Brien and Libby Cacace all arriving for decent sums of money.

Broadhead, meanwhile, is considered a versatile option who can play up top as well as in the wide areas and the 27-year-old has a decent goal scoring record for the Tractor Boys.

He stuck 23 efforts into the net in 76 league outings for the club across three divisions and he will be expected to take that form with him to the Racecourse.

Nathan Broadhead’s Ipswich Town record

Broadhead has history in English football’s second tier having banged in 13 goals in the Championship the year Kieran McKenna’s side won promotion to the Premier League.

Wrexham’s spending power is closer to other big clubs in the same division compared to the past few seasons where their income has dwarfed some other clubs in Leagues One and Two.

It comes amid Tom Brady’s investment into Birmingham City which has also saw big money spent.

The Blues spent £10m on former Celtic star Kyogo while they have snapped up 10 others.
