Willy Sagnol is the first preference right-back for the French national team. He is 31 years old and currently plays for German champions Bayern Munich. Willy started his career at Saint-Etienne, the club in the city where he was born, in 1995. In 1997, he joined AS Monaco. At this club he won the Ligue 1 in 2000. The year 2000 was the year in which Sagnol joined Bayern Munich. Here he enhanced his reputation as one of the world’s best full-back, and made himself a regular for the French national team. Sagnol was part of the Bayern team that won the 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008 Bundesliga title, four times the DFB German Cup (2003, 2005, 2006, 2008), the Super Cup in 2004 & 2007, and the Champions League as well as the Intercontinental Cup in 2001.

Sagnol made his France debut on the 15th November 2000, while playing for Monaco, in a match against Turkey. Since then, until before the Euro 2008 preparation matches, he has appeared 54 times for France. In the Euro 2008 qualifiers, he continued to prove what an amazing full-back he is, supplying great crosses, providing quality when joining the attack, and being very consistent. His performances make it impossible for Domenech to overlook him for the Euro 2008 campaign, and he is likely to start all matches if he stays clear of injuries.
