2: Jean-Alain Boumsong

Jean-Alain Boumsong is a 28-year old central defender who currently plays for French Champions Olympique Lyon. The French defender has played for 6 clubs in his career, starting at Le Havre and having spells at Auxerre, Rangers, Newcastle, Juventus and Olympique Lyon. In all the leagues he has played, he has had success, except for the Premier League with Newcastle. With Auxerre he won the Coupe de France (2002/03 by 2-1 against PSG), with Rangers he won the Scottish Premier League 2004/05, he helped Juventus to win Serie B and gain promotion back to Serie A after the Calciopoli scandal, and at Olympique Lyon, Boumsong helped to clinch the seventh consecutive Ligue 1 title.

Jean-Alain made his France debut on the 20th June 2003 against Japan. He was selected for the Euro 2004 squad but only made one extremely brief appearance, coming on as a substitute in the group stage 3-1 win against Switzerland, where he only came on in the 2nd minute of injury time before the final whistle. He started appearing regularly for France in the qualifiers for World Cup 2006, and was called to the squad for the final tournament. However, he was considered second-best to Lilian Thuram, who was returning to Les Blues from injury, and failed to play a single game. Hopefully, Boumsong will play a part in the coming European Championship tournament to be held in Austria/Switzerland.
