Deadline Day Possibilities including Cahill & Kaka to Arsenal

On Wednesday 31st August at 00:00 the transfer window will have officially closed. In this article I am going to look at who could be on the move, either a permanent deal or on loan. I will analyse three major deals which could happen in Europe in the days ahead.

Deal 1: Gary Cahill to Arsenal: It’s no secret that Arsenal need a commanding centre back. Recent signings such as Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci just haven’t been good enough. Arsene Wenger has been linked with lots of centre backs including Scott Dann and Christopher Samba however I don’t think those deals will materialise. Today Arsenal did make a bid for Cahill whose currently playing at the Reebok. In a press conference Owen Coyle explained to the media that Arsenal’s offer was “derisory” and “well under their valuation”. The media have reported the offer to have been in the region of £7 million which I think is definitely not enough for the commanding centre-half. Even though Bolton rejected the offer I don’t think the deal is over. This deal is definitely one too watch in the days ahead and with Wenger desperate for new faces and to please the fans I think he may be forced to pay that little bit more.

Verdict: As much as I think the move would be good for Cahill and his chances with England I think Wenger may stick to his guns and stay pretty stubborn. It all depends on how much room Bolton leave for negotiations as Arsenal have sold around £68 million worth of talent this summer. Overall I think Arsenal fans won’t see Cahill in this window but he will eventually apply his skills at the emirates.

Deal 2: Lassana Diarra to Spurs: This deal seemed very close a week ago but it now seems that that’s far from the case. Diarra publicly claimed that a deal isn’t on the table but Spurs claim they won’t give up. Real Madrid seem happy to sell the midfielder but I think he isn’t happy moving to White Hart Lane. Harry Redkanpp claimed that their is a “good chance” of Diarra playing at White Hart Lane. With Luka Modric seemingly staying put at the moment I’m not sure how determined Spurs are too get their man.

Verdict: Don’t think this deal will happen now that the Modric saga seems to have been settled.

Deal 3: Kaka to Arsenal: With the swift departures of Nasri and Fabregas, Arsenal desperatly need a midfielder with some creativity. With Jack Wilshire still sidelined Arsenal’s midfielder looks mediocre at best. Kaka is obviously someone Wenger is interested in as he tried to sign him on loan earlier in the week but Real Madrid are only interested in a permanent departure. Kaka’s substantial wage may prove a stumbling block but also do Arsneal want to pay between £23-25 million for the Brazilian. Having fallen out of favour at the Bernabau I think Kaka would relish a new start at the Emirates but will Arsenal part with the cash?

Verdict: I think Arsenal will stick with the youth and stay with Ramsey and Wilshire. In my opinion they should push the boat out as Kaka has undoubtedly got class. However, his wage demands and transfer fee is substantial especially for his age. If he joined for the same fee that Nasri left for then I think Arsenal have payed over the odds. Nasri is a better player than Kaka but Kaka would be a valuable asset to the Gunners.
