Buxton Completes Permanent Wednesday Move

Stoke defender Lewis Buxton has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on a full time deal until 2011 for a nominal fee. The 25 year old, who is equally happy playing at centre back or as either full back had spent most of the season on loan at the Owls after falling down the pecking order at Stoke.

Buxton: Wednesday bound

Buxton signed for Stoke in January 2005 after leaving Portsmouth, where he once won the young player of the season award. In total, he made over sixty appearances for Stoke, scoring once, a consolation goal in a 3-1 home defeat to Watford, nine months after joining the club. He made fifteen league appearances for the Owls during his loan spell, and, with some solid displays, convinced manager Bryan Laws to sign him on a more permanent basis.

Buxton was always a solid if not outstanding performer for Stoke, and I’m sure he can become a decent player at Championship level.
