Two Wins From The Title as Gers beat Dons

Another game, Another three points for Rangers as they surge towards a 53rd League Championship. Goals from Steven Davis, Kyle Lafferty and Kenny Miller was enough to see off the stubborn threat of Mark McGhee’s Aberdeen who are now destined for a bottom-six finish this season.

Lafferty fires home after a fine run from the striker

The major talking point before kick-off was Kyle Lafferty’s place in the starting 11 with Kris Boyd sitting on the bench after some poor performances of late. In all honesty, the first 20 minutes were boring and drab. There was no cutting-edge or pace from either side but after 24 minutes Steven Davis produced a moment of absolute class when he scored a curling effort into the top corner from 25 yards. Another excellent goal from Davis and hammers home the strong opinion that he should be Scottish Player of the Year 2010.

Kyle Lafferty produced a fine display last night and topped off a good shift with an excellent goal on 65 minutes when Rangers surged forward on the break and Lafferty cut inside from the right and drilled home a right-foot shot into the bottom corner with Jamie Langfield beaten. Cue a bizzare celebration from Lafferty. Aberdeen silenced the Ibrox crowed just a few minutes later when Darren Mackie bundled the ball home after a series of mistakes from the Champions defensively.

Rangers sealed the three points when Kenny Miller was on the line to tap home after Danny Wilson’s knockdown from a Steven Davis corner.

Dundee United lie next for Rangers at Tannadice, if Motherwell see off Celtic the night before, it could be the title party for Walter Smith’s men.
