Gianluigi Donnarumma has been axed by Paris Saint Germain ahead of their UEFA Super Cup Final clash with Tottenham this week.
The €50million-rated goalkeeper has made it clear he wants a move away from PSG and manager Luis Enrique has made sure to move that along by refusing to select him for tomorrow evening’s fixture.
It has been claimed the stopper did not travel with his teammates.
It was a decision made by the manager which seemingly did not sit too well with Donnarumma’s camp, however it is one which could signal a rapid exit for the Italian international.
Gianluigi Donnarumma has not travelled with PSG for Tottenham clash
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the goalie’s future plan as they seek to bring him to Old Trafford to work with Andre Onana.
But now the same journalist has claimed that rivals Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are also keen on Donnarumma and could make a move for the 26-year-old who won the Treble last term including the Champions League.
Donnarumma refused to sign a new contract with the Ligue 1 giants and that was reported to be the catalyst for a breakdown in relationship between player and club.
City have only recently signed James Trafford from Burnley which could throw a spanner in the works for any move for Gigi. However Romano took to social media to suggest the Citizens maintain an interest despite their recent arrival.
It means current number one at the Etihad, Ederson, could be looking to move on to pastures new having had interest from clubs in Saudi in recent years.
Donarumma could be forced to choose between Man City and United
This week, though, it has been Turkish giants Galatasaray who have been linked with a possible move for the 31-year-old Brazilian.
Romano writes: “Galatasaray have made direct approach with Manchester City for Éderson as main target at GK.
“Donnarumma option never seen as concrete with Galatasaray focused on Éderson deal.
“Talks ongoing on both club and player side, it could be key for City pursuing Donnarumma.”
How James Trafford’s Man City move could benefit Man United in Donnarumma race
The dominos still to fall for City to make their concrete offer could open the door for United to complete a deal.
Onana has struggled to convince at Old Trafford in the 101 appearances in all competitions he has made and his future could be up in the air should Donnarumma be brought to the club.
Either way, all of this speculation could work in Thomas Frank and Spurs’ favour with the Europa League victors looking to do a number on last season’s Champions League winners.
