Arsenal’s imminent deal for Eberechi Eze could have a significant effect on BOTH Tottenham and Manchester City.
The Gunners are closing in on a move for the Crystal Palace playmaker with a deal believed to be worth in the region of £64million plus add-ons in the offing.
That comes after Spurs thought they had landed their man as they, too, were desperate to sign Eze and they felt they had done enough to win his signature.
It will be the Gunners for Eze who has been a lifelong fan of the club at the Emirates and Palace will have to replace their attacker with one of their own summer targets as Oliver Glasner prepares for life without the England cap.
But it won’t just be Arsenal and Palace who have business to get done, especially after Eze’s decision.
Eberechi Eze’s Arsenal move shifts Spurs’ thoughts back to Savinho
No, Spurs and Manchester City could also be dragged into it indirectly with their own negotiations to be discussed.
We told you earlier this month how Thomas Frank and Tottenham were directly interested in Savinho at the Etihad with the North London club willing to do a deal for £43m.
They reportedly were unwilling to give up or flinch even after hearing of City’s refusal to negotiate as they looked to keep hold of the Brazilian.
Savinho has been open to the move to Spurs after Frank missed out on big targets already.
Eze is just the latest in a long line of players the Danish manager has tried and failed to land including his former Brentford stars Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa.
The former joined Manchester United and Wissa wants a move to Newcastle.
Where Savinho might fit into Tottenham’s plans
With James Maddison also now sidelined until much later in the season with an ACL tear, Spurs’ need for a creative wide player has become even more important.
Frank’s plan would surely see Savinho deployed on the right wing, and that would leave new signing from West Ham, Mohammed Kudus, to operate as a No.10, where he has previously featured for his national side, Ghana.
Savinho’s pace, dribbling ability and willingness to take on defenders one-on-one make him a natural fit for the manager’s style.
Spurs’ winger options already include Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel, while Kudus can also play wide.
However, with Son Heung-min’s departure to LAFC and ongoing injury issues in the squad, Frank wants a proven creative outlet who can contribute immediately but also has the potential to grow into a key player.
While Savinho’s numbers at City suggest room for improvement, his breakout season in Spain convinced Frank he can thrive with more regular minutes in a system built around direct, high-tempo attacking play.
