Tottenham Push for Savinho Transfer Despite Manchester City Resistance

Totenham Transfer News: Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their efforts to sign Brazil winger Savinho from Manchester City, with talks ongoing despite City wanting to keep him.

Spurs have held direct discussions with City over a deal worth around €50 million (£43m).

Savinho, 21, is open to the move, and although Pep Guardiola typically avoids blocking players who want to leave, City believe it would take significantly more than £50m to tempt them into selling.

Why Spurs Want Savinho

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank views Savinho as an ideal player to slot into his tactical system.

The Dane has already missed out on several attacking targets this summer, including Brentford duo Bryan Mbeumo – who joined Manchester United – and Yoane Wissa, who wants to join Newcastle.

With James Maddison sidelined for most of the season after an ACL injury and Dejan Kulusevski recovering from knee surgery, Spurs are short on creative options in attacking areas.

Frank’s plan would see Savinho deployed on the right wing, freeing Mohammed Kudus to operate as a No. 10, where he has previously excelled for Ghana.

Savinho’s pace, dribbling ability and willingness to take on defenders one-on-one make him a natural fit for Frank’s style.

Spurs’ winger options already include Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel, while Kudus can also play wide.

However, with Son Heung-min’s departure to LAFC and ongoing injury issues in the squad, Frank wants a proven creative outlet who can contribute immediately but also has the potential to grow into a key player.

While Savinho’s numbers at City suggest room for improvement, his breakout season in Spain convinced Frank he can thrive with more regular minutes in a system built around direct, high-tempo attacking play.

Savinho’s Rise Through the City Football Group

Savinho began his career at Atletico Mineiro before moving to Troyes, part of the City Football Group (CFG).

A loan to PSV Eindhoven in 2022-23 brought limited opportunities, but a switch to Girona – also part of the CFG – the following season transformed his trajectory.

In 2023-24, he scored 11 La Liga goals and registered 10 assists, playing a key role in Girona’s top-four finish and Champions League qualification. That form earned him a permanent move to Manchester City last summer.

For Guardiola’s side in 2024-25, Savinho made 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists.

Savinho Tottenham Transfer: What Happens Next

A £43m fee is within Tottenham’s budget after their move for Morgan Gibbs-White collapsed last month.

With other reinforcements, including a possible defensive signing, expected before the window closes, Spurs will push to make Savinho their next major addition.

The ball now lies in Manchester City’s court: either cash in on a player who may face limited starting opportunities under Guardiola, or back him to develop into a first-team regular in the coming seasons.
