Rasmus Hojlund insists he is returning to Italy with Napoli a better player following his stint with Manchester United.
The Danish international signed on the dotted line with the Serie A league title holders to join on loan late on.
It was a clever move for the 22-year-old whose playing time at Old Trafford had been limited under manager Ruben Amorim following the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
United are set to receive around £5.2million as part of the deal for his loan fee which also has a £38m obligation fee attached that Napoli will have to pay next summer when the conditions are met.
Hojlund managed just 26 goals for United in 95 appearances and he has been questioned by some members of the media as well as fans in that time.
For the player himself, though, he reckons his time with the Red Devils has only made him a better player. His experience, he says, comes from playing Champions League football with United at the highest level and scoring goals in the Premier League.
Rasmus Hojlund says he’s better player returning to Serie A
Asked what he first thought when posed with the question of joining Antonio Conte’s Napoli, Hojlund was optimistic and enthusiastic.
“I was very excited, because it’s a team that just won the league. I also know how great the fans are, the city, and I’m very happy for this opportunity,” Hojlund told Napoli’s club media.
“It’s different now, obviously, as I come with more experience and I’m a better football player. I come with a lot of international experience.
“I played in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, and in multiple countries. I come with a lot to prove, I want to show myself in the best team in Italy, and Napoli is going to be very, very good.”
Why Hojlund chose to leave Manchester United on loan
The striker added: “I always work hard, I like to say I want to die on the pitch, to give everything for the team, to score goals, create, and fight for everything.
“I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity, I’m very, very grateful and I’m going to do my best to make us win something this year again, and to do the fans and club proud.”
Hojlund is heading back to Italy where he played for Atalanta for a year. His form there earned him his £72m move to the Theatre of Dreams but just four goals last term convinced manager Amorim that he needed reinforcements.
He will join up with former United midfielder Scott McTominay who was nominated for the Ballon d’or after his incredible season last year.
