Newcastle are preparing a bid for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand-Larsen during this month’s January transfer window.
The Tyneside club saw several bids rejected over the summer, but sources now indicate that they are ready to make another move for the 25-year-old Norwegian.
Premier League basement-dwellers Wolves have been preparing to lose many of their key men in the coming months.
With just six points from 20 games, they remain on track to be the worst Premier League side ever.
Despite Saturday’s shock 3-0 win against fellow relegation candidates West Ham, Wolves are still 12 points from safety.
As the club braces for relegation and the mass exodus that follows, Hibernian’s Kieron Bowie has been touted as a possible Strand-Larsen replacement.
And it looks like they’ll need to bring someone in sooner rather than later, with Newcastle ready to make a move.
Wolves rejected multiple bids in the summer, turning down close to £60 million from Newcastle.
But their imminent relegation means they will likely accept far less this time around.
Newcastle Ready To Go Back In For Jorgen Strand-Larsen
The departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool meant Newcastle were desperate for a striker in the summer.
But having signed Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, they looked to have solved that problem.
However, Wissa’s injury struggles have meant Woltemade has been almost single-handedly leading the Magpies’ attack.
The German has seven goals in 17 Premier League games – a solid return for a young striker debuting in the league.
But such figures are not enough on their own, and Newcastle need more goals.
As a result, they are ready to reignite their interest in Strand-Larsen.

Wolves know they are beyond mounting a serious survival bid, and their star players are likely to leave.
The value of those players will only drop as the season wears on, making it sensible to cash in.
Because of this, Wolves are not expected to demand the sort of money they turned down in the summer.
A figure closer to £40 million should be enough to secure Strand-Larsen in January, rather than the near £60 million rejected in August.
Wolves Accept They Can’t Keep Hold Of Strand-Larsen
While Wolves would love to keep their best players as they prepare for life in the Championship, they must be realistic.
Even a £40 million sale would mean they nearly doubled their money on Strand-Larsen.
The club paid just over £20 million last summer, and Wolves stand to profit significantly.

Alongside Newcastle, Numerous Premier League clubs are monitoring the Norwegian’s situation.
It is understood that Tottenham, Everton, Fulham and Crystal Palace all hold an interest.
Nottingham Forest have also made enquiries regarding Strand-Larsen.
But it’s Newcastle who lead the way, and seem most willing to match Wolves’ asking price – albeit greatly reduced from the summer.
