With no timeline given for his return, Bentancur’s place at the World Cup looks in jeopardy.
It’s another big blow for Thomas Frank and Spurs, who have struggled this season.
They sit 14th in the Premier League table, with just seven wins from 21 games.
Spurs are also out of the FA Cup after losing 2-1 at home to Aston Villa on Saturday, despite Tottenham wearing a commemorative kit in memory of their 1901 triumph.

Tottenham To Sign Conor Gallagher As Bentancur Injury Severity Revealed
Given the number of midfielders out for Tottenham, it’s no shock to see them making moves in the transfer market.
Multiple reports have linked Spurs with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher.
The former Chelsea midfielder is believed to be in London today completing a medical ahead of a £35 million switch.
With James Maddison out for the season after rupturing his ACL in pre-season, Spurs were already short.
But this new injury to Bentancur has forced manager Thomas Frank’s hand.

With the fixtures piling up, bringing in an experienced international with Premier League experience is a smart option.
Spurs have beaten off competition from Aston Villa in order to land Gallagher.
The 25-year-old made 77 appearances for Atletico after joining from Chelsea in 2024.
Next up, Tottenham host West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
They then face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League – also at home – next Tuesday before away trips to Burnley and Eintracht Frankfurt.
