Newcastle United have opened talks with star man Bruno Guimaraes over a new contract, with growing interest from other clubs in the Brazilian.
Following the announcement of a new deal for defender Sven Botman, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are now keen to lock down talismanic midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
Howe, who ruled himself out of the Manchester United job last week, will be desperate to keep Guimaraes.
The 29-year-old has been indispensable to the Magpies in recent seasons.
And despite the team performing below expectations this campaign, Guimaraes has been excellent.
He has scored eight goals and provided six assists in all competitions.
Bringing in reinforcements will also be vital for the club, with Wolves’ Jorgen Strand-Larsen a key target.
But Newcastle must first ensure they hang on to top players already at the club such as Guimaraes.
Newcastle Open New Contract Talks With Bruno Guimaraes
As it stands, Guimaraes’ current five-year-deal lasts until 2028.
That contract is believed to include a £100 million release clause, but it may not be enough to put off some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are long-term admirers of Guimaraes.
And despite the hefty fee, neither club would struggle to pay £100m – for the right player.

City boss Pep Guardiola is also a big fan, praising the Newcastle star in 2024 ahead of an FA Cup meeting.
“He is an exceptional holding midfielder. He is aggressive, with the ball or without the ball. At set pieces, he’s aggressive and is a real, complete holding midfielder,” said Guardiola.
And it’s this interest from City in particular that’s pushing Newcastle to enter contract talks.
A new deal would tie down Guimaraes for the long-term, and put Newcastle in a far stronger negotiating position.
It’s therefore no surprise to see them desperate to agree an extension with the player.
Rival Clubs Circling For Bruno Guimaraes
Alongside City and PSG, Spanish giants Real Madrid also hold an interest in Guimaraes.
Bundesliga juggernauts Bayern Munich are reportedly keen as well, giving Newcastle plenty to worry about in keeping their man.
Of all the teams in world football, few have a bigger pull or more financial clout that those four.
But Newcastle will not let their best player leave without a fight.
Eddie Howe and the club hierarchy have no intention of selling Guimaraes, who they see as irreplaceable.

The Toon Army hold their Brazilian star in the highest regard, and would never accept a sale unless the player was trying to force a move.
These fresh talks are a clear statement of intent from Newcastle.
They know their most prized asset is wanted by the absolute biggest clubs in the world.
But they are ready to bump his wages even higher than they already are – given he is Newcastle’s top earner.
And if they can negotiate the removal of Guimaraes’ release clause, Newcastle would put themselves in an excellent position to secure his long-term services.
