Harry Wilson set to stay at Fulham for now but future remains uncertain

Harry Wilson is expected to remain at Fulham despite heavy interest from Premier League clubs during the January transfer window.

Wilson has been a key player for Marco Silva’s men this season, contributing eight goals and four assists in the Premier League so far.

It’s the kind of form that has seen Wilson linked with a move away from Craven Cottage this season.

The Welshman’s contract expires in the summer, meaning the winger would be available at a cut price this January for anyone looking to boost their forward options.

However, according to reports from Sky Sports News, the 28-year-old is expected to still be a Fulham player after tonight’s 7pm deadline.

Harry Wilson could leave on a free this summer

Whilst Fulham fans may be breathing a sigh of relief this evening, the news may not be as good as it seems for the London side.

Keeping one of the key players away from their Premier League rivals may help Fulham push for Europe this season, but the long-term future of Wilson remains uncertain.

The Welsh winger is still set to become a free agent on June 30 despite Fulham’s best attempts to tie Wilson down.

Is Harry Wilson waiting for a summer move?

Despite the short-term boost for Fulham, Paul Merson believes Wilson may have already had his head turned elsewhere.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit said: “I doubt he’ll sign.

“Sorry to Fulham fans, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s done a deal [with another club] already to know where he’s going in the summer.

“He’s hot at the moment.”

If Wilson continues his rich vein of form, don’t be surprised to see even more clubs swoop in for the talented 28-year-old on a free this summer.

Have Fulham signed a Harry Wilson replacement?

With the Cottagers at risk of losing Wilson this summer, Fulham’s recent signing of Oscar Bobb makes more sense.

The £27 million signing from Manchester City could be an indication that the Cottagers are resigned to Wilson’s future departure, with the Norwegian a like-for-like replacement.

The promising young winger could turn out to be evidence of forward thinking from Fulham, rather than a move that looks to build on what Silva has already assembled on the River Thames.
