Where to start? Wow. What a Transfer window, records broken everywhere! Sort of. I bet none of you expected most of them!
There have been a few transfers in that last month that have surprised me, but also some that are very pleasing to see. Although it’s good to see some potentially world class players coming into the Premier League such as Luiz and Dzeko. There was 2 transfers that I was rather sceptical about, it’s not Darren Bent’s hefty price tag, proven goalscorer and worth the full £24mil IMO. No, it’s that of Luis Suarez and guess who? Yep, Andy Carroll. This is a huge gamble for Liverpool, paying 20 odd and 30 odd million for someone that scored a lot of goals in Holland’s Eredivisie, and an inexperienced youngster.
I’ve heard a lot of people talking about his (Suarez) impressive stats, having a VERY impressive goals/games ratio, almost as impressive as Afonso Alves’ (who?) stats in the Eredivisie (34 goals in 31 league games). Yeah, exactly. You could argue that he, Suarez, had a relatively impressive world cup, and yeah I’d agree it was pretty good, apart from his disgusting cheating “save”. The difference is, he was playing alongside Diego Forlan, one of the finest strikers in the game. At Liverpool, he will be alongside Andy Carroll, who is in my eyes is too inexperienced at the top level for a £35million price tag. I do understand that Carroll has huge potential, and has the traits of a complete centre forward, which in a season or two he may turn out to be, but he might not. A HUGE gamble, selling a world cup winning, and undoubtedly a true world class striker in Torres, for these two.

On the other hand, this could turn out to be a very, very potent strike force (not quite Drogba and Torres, though). If Andy Carroll does fill out his potential, and Suarez can bring over the form that he showed in Holland, they could well turn out to be the best moves the club have ever made! I for one, am very interested to see how the rest of this season will unfold. Although, as a Hull City fan, not that excited! Although we have signed Fryatt and McLean…
Anyway, was it worth it? I think it was. After all, anyone can drone on about Torres being amazing, but they are sitting somewhere in the depths of the league where they don’t really belong. I think Dalglish is a very brave man, I couldn’t think of many managers that would have taken that gamble. Then again, that is what it takes to make a great leader, to make great decisions and take the battering if they fail, and the praise if they succeed. This could be the injection of life they need, and indeed is a very exciting time for the fans. Liverpool have bet big, but I expect them to win big (next season) too.
Well played Kenny, well played.
