Why Alexander Isak Has Not Submitted Transfer Request Amid Newcastle War of Words

Alexander Isak continues to hope for a Newcastle United exit this summer – but has not submitted an official transfer request.

The Swedish striker is attempting to do everything in his power to land what would be his dream move to Liverpool in this window.

Arguably he has been going about his business the wrong way with one pundit accusing Isak of bad behaviour and “throwing the toys out his pram” over the deal.

Newcastle United want close to £150million for their star man but the Reds have thus far only stumped up around £110m with the two clubs’ valuations still well off.

Isak and Newcastle both exchanged statements late last night after the player no-showed the PFA Awards bash where he was named in the Premier League Team of the Year thanks to his 27 goals from 42 appearances last term in all competitions.

Why Alexander Isak has not submitted official transfer request

The player claims his club broke promises they made to him while the Magpies deny that as the case and instead insist they will welcome the 25-year-old frontman back with open arms when, not if, he returns to the fold.

But the ongoing saga has left some punters of both sides questioning why Isak has not submitted an official transfer request which could potentially expedite the process.

According to the BBC, there are various benefits of doing so which Isak could take on. Albeit the publication only mentions “inform a club of a player’s desire to leave”.

Newcastle striker Isak could be in breach of contract

The goal scorer has already made it abundantly clear he wants to leave St James’ Park and will do so by almost any means necessary.

That is because he won’t submit a formal request because of financial penalties the striker would incur by doing so.

An official request would constitute a breach of Isak’s contract and that could hit the player in his pocket with a number of contractual bonuses and add-ons under threat of not being necessary to be paid by Newcastle.

The Beeb claim the Geordie outfit can fine Isak if they find him to have breached the obligations of his deal or a relevant code of conduct.

While last night’s statement on Isak’s social media page may not exactly be a breach, it could be considered to be unprofessional and Newcastle admitted in their own comments how disappointed they were to see their dirty laundry aired in public.

What the Magpies said about Isak’s statement

The club wrote: “We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening.

“We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.

“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

“We do not foresee those conditions being met.

“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
