Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has criticised Diego Simeone after television footage appeared to show Atletico Madrid coach exchanging heated words with Vinicius Junior.
Alonso claimed Simeone crossed a line during the Spanish Super Cup altercation, calling his behaviour unsportsmanlike.
Vinicius Jr. and Diego Simeone Clash During Spanish Super Cup
Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final on Wednesday night. Federico Valverde scored a record-breaking free-kick before Rodrygo made it 2-0 in the second half.
Alexander Sorloth pulled one back for Los Rojiblancos shortly after Rodrygo’s strike, but Madrid held on to secure the win.
In the 81st minute, Xabi Alonso subbed Vinicius Jr. off. While coming off the pitch, the Brazilian had a heated exchange with Diego Simeone, which earned both a yellow card.
TV cameras managed to capture the altercation. According to Mundo Deportivo, Simeone told Vinicius, “Florentino is going to fire you, remember that later.”

When asked about the incident after the match, Simeone suggested the incident should have stayed on the pitch.
“I have nothing to say,” Simeone told Movistar.
“I’ve always said, ever since I started playing, that what happens on the field stays on the field, and that’s all I have to say. I have a lot of respect for Carvajal, for all the Real Madrid players, and I clearly told him what it looks like from the outside and what’s happening to all of them.”
Alonso Slams Simeone For Crossing Limit During Vinicius Clash
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso was furious with Diego Simeone’s behaviour and accused him of crossing a line.
“I try to be respectful to the players on the opposing team, and I don’t usually address them,” said Alonso.
“When I saw what he [Simeone] said to him, I liked it less. That’s not an example of good sportsmanship. Not everything goes; you have to have respect for your opponent. Everything that happens on the pitch has a limit.”

Vinicius Jr.’s Real Madrid future has been up in the air for quite some time. The Brazilian is reportedly holding out for a better contract, one that would put him in the same wage bracket as Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid legend Predrag Mijatovic does not believe Vinicius deserves a Mbappe-level contract and insists the club’s interests must always come first.
Los Blancos are still negotiating with the No. 7 and hope to find a breakthrough in the coming months. The 25-year-old’s current deal with Madrid runs until June 2027.
