Mijatovic Says Vinicius Does Not Deserve Mbappe-Level Contract at Real Madrid

Vinícius Junior Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid star Predrag Mijatovic has suggested Vinicius Jr. does not deserve to be paid as much as Kylian Mbappe.

Mijatovic advised Real Madrid not to give in to Vinicius’ wage demands, claiming he was not bigger than the club.

Vinicius Jr. sees his contract expire in June 2027, and Los Blancos want to extend his deal before he enters his final year.

The two parties have been holding renewal talks for months but have not yet reached an agreement.

According to reports, Vinicius Jr. wants to be the joint-highest paid player at Real Madrid alongside Kylian Mbappe, who makes over €30 million net per year (via Capology).

Vinicius’ current net pay is €18 million, and he has already turned down an offer for €20 million.

Mijatovic Claims Vinicius Jr. Does Not Deserve Mbappe-Level Contract

In an interview with Cadena SER, Predrag Mijatovic questioned Vinicius Jr.’s wage demands.

He bluntly claimed that he did not deserve to be paid as much as Kylian Mbappe and advised the club to sell him next summer if he did not renew.

You cannot, under any circumstances, allow a player or his representatives to control you. Madrid will continue winning with Vinícius and without him,” said Mijatovic.

If Vinicius is now asking for Mbappé’s or Messi’s contract, it means he doesn’t want to renew. It’s clear, we’re not children. And if he wants to finish his contract, that’s fine, Real Madrid always has to come first.

Mijatovic also referred to the reported feud between Xabi Alonso and Vinicius Jr. Real Madrid are accused of siding with Vinicius, with Mijatovic insisting a player cannot be above the coach.

The former striker also took a thinly veiled jibe at the Brazilian’s form.

He added:

A player, regardless of his importance, can never, ever demand from the club that I don’t want to be with this coach because football is a team sport.

I would understand Vinicius’ demands if he scored three goals in every game, but that’s not the case.”

Vinicius Jr. is currently on a 14-game goalless streak in all competitions. It is the second-worst run of his career behind his 25-game drought in 2021.

The 25-year-old last scored in Madrid’s 3-1 win over Villarreal in LaLiga on 4 October.
