England will not be subjected to racist comments on Wednesday when they face Spain, according to Iker Casillas.
Back in 2004, the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermaine Jenas, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Jermain Defoe were targeted by Spanish fans due to the colour of their skin.
The actions of those fans in the Santiago Bernabeu, home of Real Madrid, were punished; however Spain still struggles with racist minorities in various stadiums across the country.
The game will be played at Sevilla’s Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, following England’s refusal to return to the Spanish capital. Real Madrid ‘keeper Iker Casillas says the atmosphere will be more respectable and there will be no problems.
“The game in Madrid was spoiled by a group of people who do not represent the majority in Spain,” said the Spanish shot-stopper.
“We received a lot of criticism but it was unfair because Spain is not a racist country.
“I have had friends of many races who have played for Real Madrid and they have never had any problems.
“I am convinced the game in Seville will pass without any problems.”
