Arsenal vs Cardiff City – Most important game of the season?

Set to return on Monday?

Set to return on Monday?

Depending on whether you feel silverware or champions league football is the biggest priority will determine whether or not you feel this is Arsenal’s biggest game of the season.

Realistically, the FA Cup represents Arsenal’s biggest chance of silverware this season, and after the 6th round draw today, many Arsenal fans may be feeling that we have a great chance of winning it.
Arsenal have 3 home games in a row to reach the semi-finals of the competition. Starting with Cardiff tomorrow. If Arsenal win then they will face Burnley at home and then possibly Sheffield United or Hull City. These are all winnable games if Arsenal play well, however, they haven’t done that in a long time.

This draw makes this game even more important than when the first game kicked off 3 weeks ago. Arsenal have a passage to the semis which can be achieved all at home. If they win tomorrow then they are a massive step closer to Wembley. The Arsenal players and fans must feel that a trip to Wembley for the semis is a realistic looking prospect, so a win here is paramount for Arsenal’s chances of their first trophy in 4 years. Everyone at the club must be desperate to end this cycle with no trophies, and , after looking at the draw, this is the best chance since 2005 to win it again.
Lose tomorrow and the season is over (unless we win the champions league, which is unlikely). So, in my opinion, this is the biggest game of the season.

Manager Arsene Wenger obviously agrees and says that the team need to be focused ahead of the FA Cup replay against Cardiff City.

Wenger agrees that The FA Cup seems to be the most, if not only realistic trophy that Arsenal can win and Wenger will be hoping that they put together a convincing run in the competition.

He said: “We want to prepare well because we know it is a very important game for us and we need to focus.

“We are unbeaten and want to keep that going in every competition – the longer that lasts, the stronger you will be.

“If the three draws put together don’t look good, then you must put the whole 11 games together and that looks like we are on a run.

“We want to transform that bit of disappointment from a draw into a convincing victory, and the team is on a good way.”

Arshavin is unavailable for the game, along with all the injured players like Silvestre, Rosicky, Fabregas, Adebayor and possibly Diaby and Clichy. However, Eduardo may make his return. Let’s hope that this can make a difference, and send Arsenal one step closer to Wembley.
We know who we have to beat to get there, so let’s go and beat them. Starting with Cardiff tomorrow.
