Arshavin unlikey to join Gunners

Chelsea the club which steals great talents to stop other clubs from having them is winning the race for the Russian star Andrei Arshavin. Arsenal and Barcalona were in the hunt but it looks as if Chelsea will win out.

The Zenit St Petersburg attacking midfielder is close to agreeing terms with the Blues after club owner Roman Abramovich stepped in with a £12 million bid.

Arshavin, 27, had previously stated his intent to play for Barcelona after admitting he had ‘supported them all my life’ but money is looking like being the big winner.

Arsenal were heavily linked with the playmaker, with Arsene Wenger pulling tricks to try sign the star having been labelled a ‘cunning fox’ by a Zenit official, who claimed the Frenchman’s comments questioning Arshavin’s fitness were designed ‘to fool the competition’.

All Gunners fans wish we did fool the competition because Arsenal are going to need a Striker or Attacking midfielder with Arshavin capable of filling both roles.
