The People reported a story saying that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a huge offer before launching a mega-bid for French starlet Karim Benzema. The newspaper claimed that the French striker is wanted by the Premiership champions to boost their Double-winning squad. Ferguson has watched the striker several times while playing for Lyon, and watched him score a goal against his side when Man Utd met Lyon in the Last 16 round of Champions League this year.
Due to the player’s involvement in the Euro 2008, Ferguson is afraid that his value will rocket sky-high after a successful competition, with the youngster tipped to be top scorer of the tournament, and is thus determined to do business with Lyon in this week, before the competition starts. Ferguson is about to test Lyon with a bid of £30 million for the French star. It remains to be seen if Benzema wants to move away from Lyon, and if the latter are prepared to sell.
