Berlusconi’s 25 year kit vs. Chievo

Wearing Berlusconi’s personalised kit, Milan took on Chievo at the Stadio Bentegodi. Berna has made Milan “Il club piu titolato del mondo”, the team with the most trophies. The shirt has the date he took over, 20th of Feburary 1986, and his signature. Naturally in gold stiching.
The rossoneri played a 4-3-1-2 formation. Abbiati in goal, Abate at right back, Antonini at left. Nesta and Silva in the centre. Van Bommel, Gattuso and Merkel in a conservative midfield. Robinho, Ibrahimovic and Cassano made up the front line. Stefano Pioli also used the same formation.
The game kicked off at two o’clock, and within twenty-five minutes Milan went one-nil up in controversial fashion. Cassano dinked the ball into the six yard box, it bounces to Robinho who clearly controls it with is arm. He turns and slots it home, Cheivo protest but to no avail. The Chievo keeper, Sorrentino, claimed;
“All you need to do is look at Robinho’s shirt and see where the dirt mark is”.
The referee had the perfect view, but the goal counted. Not too dissimilar to Ranocchia’s goal for Inter on Saturday, which was clearly offside.
Fernandes and Pellissier both had good chances before half time. The latter could arguably have had a penalty. La Gazzetta dello Sport gave Fernandes a 6,5. The best Cheivo player, for his goal. Which came in the sixty-first minute. Abate couldn’t prevent the cross coming in and a bullet header put Cheivo level. Abbiati was caught off guard, but his defence didn’t help.
Milan were in a bit of trouble now, especially as Inter and Napoli are so close behind them. Allegri decided to take off Cassano and bring on out of favour, supposedly injured, Pato. Merkel also made way for Kevin-Prince Boateng, back from injury. One of the goals of the season, one that will determine the league, was scored ten minutes from time. Pato skipped past four defenders and wrong footed Sorentino and put it in off the post. Sheer brilliance my the young Brazilian who was out to prove a point that he has quality.
Cesar was sent off a couple of minutes from time, for a deliberate handball. Just frustration on Chievo players faces. They know all they needed was a proper referee. Pato’s goal was the winner in the end, and what a winner it was. Berlusconi will be happy, as Milan stay top.
