Brighton Reject Approach From Rivals For Key Man As Transfer Stance Made Clear

Brighton have rejected an approach for veteran defender Lewis Dunk from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.

Thirty-four-year-old defender Dunk has made more than 500 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions.

The academy graduate has been a cornerstone of Brighton’s first team for well over a decade.

Dunk joined Brighton’s youth setup in 2003, and has spent his entire career with the South Coast club.

Now club captain, the 6ft 4in centre-half is Brighton through and through.

But that hasn’t stopped other clubs showing interest in the six-cap England international.

However, Brighton have made it clear he is not for sale, and have now rejected an approach from Nottingham Forest.

And with Diego Coppola linked with an exit, Dunk’s importance is greater than ever.

Brighton Reject Nottingham Forest Approach For Lewis Dunk

Despite significant interest from Forest, Brighton’s stance has been made clear.

Lewis Dunk remains a key player for Fabian Hurzeler, and a hugely important figure in the dressing room.

Brighton have no intention of selling their towering, talismanic skipper, and certainly not to a direct Premier League rival.

Dunk also signed a new deal in December, keeping him at the club until 2027.

He is still a first-choice player, and is not for sale under any circumstances.

Forest have long held an interest in the defender, but it would take an astronomical figure for Brighton to even consider a sale.

The kind of money required to part the Seagulls from their skipper is far more than he would be worth to any other club, making a move near impossible.

As a result, Brighton fans can sleep easy knowing that their captain is going nowhere until at least the end of next season.

How Important Is Lewis Dunk To Brighton?

This news will be welcomed, if unsurprising, to Brighton fans.

Dunk is a club legend and leader of men, who has been with the Seagulls as they rose through the leagues.

He embodies everything that this club has become, and letting him leave would be a travesty for Brighton.

Thankfully, he is continuing to deliver on the pitch as well as off of it, meaning there is no reason Brighton would allow him to leave.

His aerial ability, calmness in possession and vast experience all continue to impress, and his leadership is second to none in the Premier League.

This staunch rejection of Forest’s approach is more than just a simple ‘no’ from Brighton.

It is a message to other would-be suitors that Lewis Dunk is, and always has been, a Brighton player.
