The Brighton View – Peterborough United v Brighton Match Preview.

It’s not often a league match this early on in the season can be considered a “six-pointer” but this one almost certainly can. Two promotion candidates clash at London Road and the implications are big for either side. A win for Brighton and they put the gap between them and Posh to nine points, a win for the hosts and only 3 points separate the two sides.

We caught up with Brighton fan Sheehan Edmonds to discuss the match, his opinions of Gus Poyet and where he thinks Brighton well finish this season.

THE POSH BLOG: Well, you’ve had a great start. 6 points clear already. You must be hopeful of promotion now?

Sheehan: I think most realistic fans aren’t getting carried away with our situation yet. The play-offs would still be a good achievement. Come Christmas, we may have a more realistic idea.

THE POSH BLOG: One of the major factors in this good form has to be Kazenga Lua-Lua. Just how good has he been and are you hopeful of keeping him in January, when I believe his loan expires?

Sheehan: Kaz has been a great addition to the squad but don’t be fooled into believing we’re a one man team. Kaz rarely plays the full 90 minutes and in at least two of our good victories on the road he was on the bench – Charlton and Plymouth spring to mind. I am hopeful we can keep him for the season especially as Newcastle are doing well, however it does still seem uncertain. Kaz is only 19 and is by no means the finished article yet – often his crosses / shots can be somewhat erratic!

THE POSH BLOG: Who else should we look out for on Saturday?

Sheehan: Elliott Bennett – the unsung hero to an extent. He is fast, skilful and will always put a shift in. Also watch out for the rejuvenated Glenn Murray.

THE POSH BLOG: Gus Poyet is doing a great job. Have you been impressed with his managing style? He’s brought in a few foreign players how have they settled in?

Sheehan: He’s been a revelation. He makes our team play the way he wants and seems to get the best out of players. Our centre back, Adam El-Abd, has come from being an average lump it league 1 player to an accomplished player who wouldn’t look out of place in the Championship right now.

THE POSH BLOG: How excited are you to be moving away from the Withdean and into Falmer, which looks brilliant?

Sheehan: By far the most important thing with the club is the stadium. It’s been a ridiculously long wait and I think you’ll agree we deserve it after putting up with heaps of setbacks. Whether we go up or not this season, I believe we will be filling the stadium most weeks.

THE POSH BLOG: What’s your likely starting team against us? And who do you consider our biggest threat?

Sheehan: CMS, Mclean and Boyd are the obvious threats. There’s no doubt Peterborough have the best attacking players in the league. We will probably start with the same team as our last game against Yeovil, possibly Matt Sparrow will come back into the team. We play a 4-4-2 system but it’s not your traditional straight forward 4-4-2 – One of our strikers often drops in to help the midfield. We employed a 4-5-1 on the road last season under Gus which also seemed to work well but he seems to favour going away and really giving it a go this year ala Charlton where it paid dividends.

THE POSH BLOG: Finally, what’s your prediction for the final score and your position in May?

Sheehan: I think we’ll come 3rd though my heart says 1st or 2nd. I think it will be 3-2 Saturday – just not sure who to – I think there is more pressure on your lads than ours which may work in our favour.

I’d like to say thanks to Sheehan for being so easy to arrange this with. Don’t forget there will be a match report after the game on this site. Feel free to discuss the upcoming fixture below.
