Former Manchester United midfielder Bryan Robson has been given the role of official club ambassador by Man Utd. Robson will be working together with 70-year-old Sir Bobby Charlton in his new role. Robson went directly into management after ending his playing career in 1996 (spending 1994-96 as player-manager at Middlesbrough). The club that he managed last was Sheffield United, which fired him on the 14th February 2008.

Robson said that he was delighted that he would be joining his former club in such a key role as club ambassador. Robson will be promoting Man Utd’s commercial and charitable aims worldwide, something that will have a major effect on the club’s future. Bryan Robson said, “I enjoyed the happiest and most memorable times of my career at Old Trafford and it will be great to play a role in making the club even more successful.”

Man Utd CEO David Gill was also thrilled at having the opportunity to work with Robson for the benefit of the club. He said, “Bryan Robson was the outstanding player of his generation. Skilful, fearless and totally committed, he is someone who remains close to the hearts of anyone who saw him play. His relationship with Manchester United supporters is second to none and I look forward to working with him for the benefit of the club, the team and the fans.”
