Hottest transfer rumours making their way around the Bundesliga

Nico Schlotterbeck Bayern Munich

With the January transfer window now not that far away, we discuss a few of the latest transfer rumours that have been discussed within the top flight of German football.

Nico Schlotterbeck

The Borussia Dortmund captain is attracting a lot of transfer activity from a plethora of clubs, including the current domestic champions of Germany and Spain.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona have been quoted as having an interest in bringing the commanding centre-half to their respective footballing surroundings.

It isn’t only some of the biggest heavyweights in football that are being linked with Schlotterbeck’s potential signature; Real Madrid have also been sniffing around to potentially take the heart out of Dortmund’s defence.

There is fierce competition for the German’s signature, if you believe the reports, but there might be another force involved. With the Reds’ interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi still falling in-and-out of the conversation surrounding the transfer window, Liverpool could look to renew their reported interest in a move for Schlotterbeck.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Bayern have raided one of their fellow Bundesliga title-challengers. The main headline on the back pages in Germany would have to be another central defender, in the form of Mats Hummels, who left Signal Iduna Park to join Bayern in 2016.

Despite not needing his reputation to be further enhanced, Schlotterbeck impressed any potential suitors in next month’s transfer window, even more after his Man of the Match performance against Hoffenheim at the weekend.

Brilliantly finding the back of the net on the stroke of the hour mark from just inside the penalty area, as BVB ran out 2-0 winners.

Ultimately, money talks in football, so there is every chance that Schlotterbeck could be on the move next month.

Amadou Haidara

Another potential departure from the Bundesliga across next month’s transfer window could be Leipzig’s Malian midfield maestro Haidara.

Despite not playing a single minute in the Bundesliga this season due to a muscular problem and manager Ole Werner’s decision, transfer rumours continue to swirl.

Haidara was present in 28 of Leipzig’s 34 league matches last season, which saw them narrowly miss out on Europe by just a single point.

Despite making over 150 appearances in the Bundesliga and being a regular on the pitch in the Champions League and Europa League, Haidara is still being linked with a move to current Ligue 1 leaders, Lens.

With Lens not only keeping up, but also currently leading reigning and defending champions Paris Saint-Germain by one point, further defensive reinforcements could be on the cards at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Virgilio Olaya

Looking at both potential incoming and outgoing players in the top flight of German football next month. Bayern are currently keeping track of the potential signature of 17-year-old Ecuadorian centre-back Olaya.

Currently playing for SD Aucas in the LigaPro Serie A in his native Ecuador, the Under 17s international has already turned heads with his performances after playing in the U17s South American Championships.

Coming in at six feet and two inches, he is the perfect stereotypical height for a centre-back, which would already make him an ideal fit in that particular department.

It certainly sounds like Bayern are right at the front of the queue to secure his highly sought-after signature.
