Burning Questions Brendan Rodgers Must Answer at Powderkeg Celtic Presser

Brendan Rodgers will be forced to face the music this afternoon and answer some difficult Celtic questions.

The Hoops manager watched as the boardroom squandered their summer transfer window and failed to adequately strengthen his playing squad.

Celtic are out of the Champions League due to their lack of squad depth and on deadline day, supporters expected a host of new bodies in the door to make up for it.

Rodgers’ words came back to haunt him after Celtic sold Adam Idah without having a replacement lined up. Their number one target, Kasper Dolberg, went to Ajax after the club refused to offer the cash it took to Anderlecht.

Eventually they would over-spend on a winger, Sebastian Tounekti, and bring in Kelechi Iheanacho on a free. But fans have been furious with their club’s lack of ambition and have planned protests amid a “sack the board” mentality.

Rodgers will be grilled by the media for the first time since the end of the window, and punters will expect the questions to be heavy. They will also be demanding a lack of platitudes and they will want honesty from the Irishman.

But what burning queries can Rodgers expect to be thrown at him?

Does he feel let down?

Rodgers has always insisted he and the board are aligned in their vision for Celts. However, the boss made it clear he wanted money to add to his squad.

He did not get it in the numbers he wanted, and if he is honest, the answer to this one will be interesting.

Why did Celtic fail so badly?

Perhaps one for upstairs rather than Rodgers, but the 52-year-old would have played a part and will surely have some sort of insight as to what exactly happened and why.

To be a “world class” club, Celtic need to act like one, and they have not. Fans want to know why not.

Did he consider his future as manager?

Rodgers would arguably have been forgiven this time round for walking out on the club after they refused to back him properly.

Add to the fact that an insider leaked to one media outlet suggesting they felt he was “engineering his exit”. If he is asked the question on that one, it will be tough not to look frustrated.

Rodgers may have had thoughts of leaving Celtic this summer. Whether or not he admits it is another thing entirely.

Is the Celtic squad stronger or weaker now than the beginning of the window?

That is the big debate among fans right now. Clubs go into transfer windows looking to improve their team, not weaken them.

Celtic sold Idah and knew they needed a number of attacking players. They did not add what they needed.
