The Scottish Premiership is arguably the most open it has been in a number of years.
Celtic are the current holders of the title but have just lost manager Brendan Rodgers who resigned at Parkhead following a breakdown in trust with the board.
Rodgers’ season stats had dipped from last term as well as his first campaign in charge of his second stint in Glasgow.
But it is now Martin O’Neill who is interim charge of the club alongside Shaun Maloney with both attempting to steady the ship to ensure another successful season for the champions.
Rivals Rangers are in a bad way, too, by their own usual standards after sacking Russell Martin and replacing him with Danny Rohl, the former Sheffield Wednesday gaffer.
The German has helped them to some decent results – including a 1-0 victory away at Hibs previously – but he has some clawing back to do before the Light Blues can seriously consider themselves contenders.
Supercomputer predicts Celtic will win Scottish Premiership
So who are Celtic’s biggest challengers this season? Or, should we say, who are the Hoops challenging right now at the top of the division?
Derek McInnes’ Hearts are in the lead and pushing having beaten both sides of the Glasgow divide already this season.
The Jambos are a whopping nine points clear at the summit and do not look like slowing down.
Hearts are looking to disrupt Scottish football and this season might be the ideal time to do so…
… but our supercomputer is not so sure it is as cut and dry as that.
We at FootballBlog crunched the numbers and the data and the AI software has released its prediction for the entire top flight of Scottish football and its winners, losers and relegated club.
Winners: Celtic (89 points)
Celtic are the current holders and are attempting to win their fifth title in a row.
Martin O’Neill has the pedigree to win at Celtic and has history of doing so, but his interim role may not last the entirety of the rest of the season.
Our supercomputer does believe, though, that O’Neill will leave the club in a strong position if he does depart the job and whoever takes on the reins will lift silverware come next May.
Though they will have to overcome the Hearts test.
AI believes Celts will find consistency and win the league by 11 points.
Second: Hearts (74 points)
No matter what our AI suggests, Hearts are set to have an incredible season.
The prediction is that they will end the campaign in second by an 11 point margin which does signal a serious tail off as the calendar progresses.

It will take an almighty swing in form and fortunes for this to come to fruition but a second place finish will be an impressive one for McInnes and his troops.
Champions League qualifiers will be well deserved if the Scottish capital club can indeed keep it up until they dip.
Third: Rangers (74 points)
Gers are sitting fourth in the division at the time of writing which, in fairness, is much better than earlier in the year.
Rohl has steadied the ship and found points since he took the gig and it is believed the head coach will take his squad into third before the season is over.
This still won’t be considered a successful year for Rangers if they do not push further to end in at least second and the fallout of that will surely be fierce.
But third is where our software has tipped the Bears to finish.
Fourth: Hibs (65 points)
David Gray’s lads have done well so far this campaign and are ahead of Rangers right now.
That may not last long having been defeated by them at Easter Road already and they are yet to compete at Ibrox.
It will, however, show consistency from the Hibees to finish in fourth spot if our data is correct in the end and for the head coach, it has to be seen as a decent showing and proof he is doing the right things in Leith.
Fifth: Aberdeen (60 points)
Aberdeen will not be happy in fifth, that much is true.
The Dons won the Scottish Cup last season and beat Celtic in the Hampden final and would have been desperate to build on that victory by pushing for third.
They have been poor this year, though, and manager Jimmy Thelin has been questioned at times.
Still, they are ninth in the league right now and will have to show marked improvement if our AI is to be proven correct.
Sixth: Dundee United (54 points)
Jim Goodwin’s Tangerines had a very good start to their season but have fallen off in recent weeks.
They are seventh in the table now and are expected to move up one spot before the term ends in May.
United have some decent players in their attacking areas and will score goals, but their issue has been keeping the door locked at the other end.
To win games they will have to do better at the back but our AI reckons they will improve.
Seventh: Kilmarnock (47 points)
It has not been the best season for Killie thus far under boss Stuart Kettlewell but he has time to turn things around.
On paper the squad at Rugby Park are perhaps better than they are showing right now and by the end of the season they will seemingly bite back.
Finishing seventh would certainly be a positive for the Ayrshire outfit right now.
Eighth: St Mirren (44 points)
They have qualified for the League Cup Final and will face Celtic in that showpiece fixture next month.
But focusing on that big game could potentially harm their Premiership ambitions under manager Stephen Robinson.
On paper right now, this collapse to finish eighth would be a significant one and would take a serious drop in form that they are not known for in Paisley.
However, playing on more than one front may hurt their chances and our supercomputer has them in eighth and outside the top six for the first time in a while.
Ninth: Motherwell (40 points)
The Steelmen have looked decent at times and played some really nice football under manager Jens Berthel Askou.
They are sixth right now, though, and have been unable at times to convert their impressive style and chances created into goals.
Ninth in the Premiership won’t be a successful season for ‘Well and they will be hopeful of proving the AI wrong with big wins between now and 2026.
A strong January will be necessary to better the prediction.
Tenth: Dundee (35 points)
Steven Pressley might actually be quite proud of 10th in the Premiership if the Dees can get it.
They are 11th at the time of writing which would see them having to enter the playoffs.
Dundee beat Celtic a few weeks ago which showed they do have something about them and if Big Elvis can get them turning in that sort of performance on a more consistent basis, 10th would be a handy ending.
Eleventh: Livingston (30 points)
Newly promoted Livi have had a dismal start with just one win to their names in the league so far this season.
David Martindale’s lads are rooted at the bottom of the table by two points and are three away from automatic safety right now.
Our AI believes the Lions may well roar back and climb at least one position but still find themselves in the playoffs.
Anything after that is anyone’s guess.
Relegated: Falkirk (26 points)
This would be a turn up for the books if early form is anything to go by.
John McGlynn’s Falkirk have started the season on fire having come up from the Championship last season and it would be unfair to think that they will fall so far between now and the end of May.
They already have 15 points and are among the Europe-chasers and level on points with Rangers and Hibs right now.
But our supercomputer believes the Bairns will toil and pick up only 11 more points all season long.
Of course, we and fans will take this prediction with a pinch of salt.
