Cesc Fabergas to sign new deal

Arsenal have been boosted by the news that playmaker Cesc Fabregas is set to sign a new contract at the Emirates stadium. Fabergas was keen on a raise and the club has answered his calls.

The midfielder’s current contract is believed to be worth around £60,000 per week with it being risen to £90,000 a week.

Although the club have a strict wage structure and were unwilling to make Mathieu Flamini the club’s top earner, they have given more ground to Fabregas, who was plucked from the Barcelona academy and has made huge strides since making his debut for the club as a 16-year-old.

“Talks have been held and everything looks likely to be sorted out. He has a contract to 2014 and the club is looking to improve his terms,” said a source at the club.

“It’s not quite up there with the £100,000 a week Thierry Henry was on in his last season.”

All this comes in the wake of Fabregas’s revelation earlier this week that he would definitely be turning out for the club at the start of the next Premier League season.

“I am staying at Arsenal. I have given my word to my coach,” he told Radio Marca.

“He asked me and I told him that he had my confidence 100 per cent and that is the end.

“He has asked for unity in the team and I am the first one who is going to stick by him so there is no problem.

“I want to win the league and I am one of those people who fights for what they want until they get it.”
